Number of Americans who have no religious affiliation has doubled in last 20 years

Actually, it's more then doubled. Analysis of data from MIT Technology Review[/link] shows eight percent of the U.S. population did not have a religious affiliation in 1990. As of 2010 (most recent data), that number is up to eighteen percent. This study attempts to show that the increase is due to the influence of the Internet; however, I think that there are deeper reasons for the decline in religious belief.

Young people began exponentially leaving churches in the 70's and 80's. Although they did not abandon the denominational labels of their parents, they stopped attending worship services and made no effort to pass along religious values to their children. I believe that the statistics in this study represent this 3rd generation that were raised as CINOs (Christian In Name Only).
