Covered California enrolls 416,000 in March

More than 416,000 California picked a health care plan in March in what Covered California executive director Peter Lee called an “enormous surge of applicants.”

The total number of people who have applied for coverage and selected a health plan in Covered California is approximately 1,221,727.

More than 500,000 have started but not completed an account...About 28 percent of those enrolled are between the ages of 18 and 34, which Lee said exceeded health plan actuaries estimates and represented a “good mix.”

Over one third of those enrolled in March were Latinos; approximately 252,000 Latinos were enrolled as of Thursday.

Enrollees who successfully complete signing up between now and April 15 will be covered May 1.
