Anti-gay organization works to cause conflict between Blacks, Latinos, and Gays - evidence revealed.

Documents released by court order in Maine reveal a national strategy, going back to 2008 or earlier, of a well-funded detailed strategy to divide key Democratic voting groups from one another. This is not a surprise to many of us, but now we have written evidence. The real goal of this strategy, in my opinion, is to divide Democrats and weaken their voting power. Opposing equal marriage is just the excuse.

From the link:

“The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies. Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots…”

Another passage:

"The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values? We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity - a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation."

The document also talks about “sideswiping Obama,” painting him as a “social radical” and talking about “side issues” like pornography.

Note that this document is dated 2008-09 and reflects thinking that was in place even before then. Also note the state-by-state strategies. Lot of money behind this.

It's clearly an effort to divide Democrats from one another, elect Republicans, and slow down progress toward human rights, not just gay rights, but all progressive causes. We still have a lot of institutionalized racism, anti-immigration hysteria, and other embedded evils. What better way to ensure that progress never happens than to turn Democrats against one another.

I suppose it is an artifact of poverty rather than an actual dislike of gay people. However it's sad that people see the need to exploit that.

All communities still struggle with the problem of homophobia. If you look at the leaders of fifty or so prominent anti-gay organizations in the U.S., you will see that 90% or more are white men.

The effort to blame homophobia on people of color is a deliberate, well-funded, carefully strategized plan to divide Democratic voters from one another. Please don't fall for it.

Again, all communities struggle with homophobia.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/03/27/anti-gay-marriage-group-recommends-creating-tension-between-gays-and-blacks/

An internal memo from one of the country’s leading anti-gay marriage organizations outlines a plan to defeat same-sex marriage and create division among Democrats by creating tension between gays and blacks over the issue.

The memo was contained in a trove of documents unsealed by a federal judge on Monday in a case in Maine, where the group, the National Organization for Marriage, spearheaded a successful ballot initiative in 2009 to outlaw gay marriage and has sued to overturn state ethics laws that would require the group to reveal the donors who financed that effort.

“The strategic goal of the project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks — two key Democratic constituencies,” reads a portion of the memo, describing an initiative called the “Not a Civil Right Project.”
