Chris Hedges speaks on 29/3/2014 at the "One Nation Under Surveillance" civil liberties conference at CCSU in CT. He's introduced by Mongi Dhaouadi, Executive Director of CAIR-CT. Hedges was one of he plaintiffs in a suit against the government "indefinite detention" policy.

He's a former Middle East bureau chief of the New York Times

He's written "Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt", "What Every Person Should Know About War", "War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning", and other books.

And those who have the least meaning in their lives, the impoverished refugees in Gaza, the disenfranchised North African immigrants in France, even the legions of young who live in the splendid indolence and safety of the industrialized world, are all susceptible to war's appeal.”

He's pretty much right; I've noticed over the years how many seem drawn to the idea of living up in the hills and waging war on a corrupt society, Red Dawn style. They don't actually do it, but they like the idea.

5. In an interview he described how even he got "intoxicated" as a reporter on War Fever...

He said when he pulled himself out of that was when he realized how destructive "war fever" could be on the battlefield and reporting in the thick of it.

I worry about those recruited for the Drone Killings. For some it may be just like being involved in gaming and the real sense of what they are doing isn't a reality for them.
