German airports crippled by warning strikes

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Most German airports were hobbled Tuesday morning by a round of public sector strikes, resulting in the cancellation of hundreds of flights, news reports said. Workers at the Frankfurt airport, the nation's busiest, were expected to return to work at mid-afternoon, reports said, while stoppages were also planned at other key hubs, including Munich and Berlin. The warning strike was called by the Verdi trade union ahead of further negotiations, which are set for Wednesday.

1. Someone will come along shortly to complain about why a strike works

They'll say it just messes with people who just want to go about their business.

Wouldn't it be nice if strikes and work stoppages never inconvenienced anyone?

That union action that inconveniences innocent third parties results in anti union bias. That when unions strike over real concerns that they've lost some of their support.

If I was flying into Germany for vacation and was forced to reroute because of a pre negotiation strike, my comments would not be "G" rated. My impressionon of the union and its actions would not be good.

5. But yet those same people don't seem to mind capitalizing on the gains organized labor....

..... has made for ALL working people over the years. Funny that.

And personally, I think people who react so negatively to union actions already harbor anti-union feelings.

7. So why would your impression of the union and it's actions.........

be negative, yet you don't mention management and IT'S actions that precipitated the strike in the first place?

The thing that most people don't get about a strike is IT'S A REACTION TO MANAGEMENT INTRANSIGENCE. Workers don't just go on strike because the want to. There's ALWAYS a reason and the reason is ALWAYS management actions.
