Group of Islington schoolgirls say meeting Michelle Obama at the White House changed their lives
27 March 2012
Mrs Obama was moved by the warm reception she received at (Oxford University) in 2009, giving a tearful speech and urging the girls to work hard to fulfill their career dreams.
. . . she invited girls from the school there, and has stayed in touch since. Two hundred pupils applied for the chance to visit the White House, and the lucky 12 were selected by the headteacher.
Headteacher Jo Dibb said: None of our girls is ever frightened to speak up and express their opinions, but theyve come back different people in terms of confidence, self-esteem and the belief that they can go on to great things.
Ece Emin said: Before going to the White House I used to think I wanted to be a surgeon. After listening to Mrs Obama I know that I want to be a woman prime minister.
Jennifer Duong said: I can still hear her saying to us, You have to push yourself hard, because if it feels easy youre not trying hard enough.
