How much freedom did Obamacare cost us?

How much freedom did Obamacare cost us?
bykos

Serious question. We're going to see around seven million people get private insurance (as the Heritage Foundation intended) through the exchanges. Medicaid expansion will deliver health insurance to anywhere between 4.7 and 6.5 million more. And don't forget the three million or so young adults who are able to stay on their parents' insurance until they're 26.

So ... how much freedom did that cost us?

You see, conservatives keep talking about the "death of freedom" and the jackbooted Obamacare Nazi Alinsky thugs who will [fill in the blank and make it really horrible]. So now that the Affordable Care Act has been (mostly) implemented and millions of people now have insurance when they didn't before, or are paying less for better insurance than they had before, it's time for a proper accounting.

Anyone know how much freedom was lost? Was it, like, 13? More than that?

Racist Repubs are worried that they have lost their freedom to hate everything the black president has done for them, even though they are white. It makes no sense to them.

The Foundation of our capitalist society is the freedom to do business, or not, with partners of our choosing. This strips that away, and it is unprecedented. You no longer have that freedom. We have abandoned capitalism, not for socialism as the talk-radio right so often claims, but for the grinding gears of soulless corporatism.

If you don't think the ACA sets a precedent, think again. ANYTHING that the government claims to be a necessity or public good can now be mandated in this way. Any private corporate product or offering. If I can dream it up, so can the fine folks at Chase. The only limit is the imagination and wallet of the corporate ghoul lobbying for it.

not do business with..." Wrong. It doesnt effect me at all directly. In fact it doesnt effect 85% of Americans that arent affected by the ACA.

"The Foundation of our capitalist society is the freedom to do business, or not, with partners of our choosing. " First of all I dont believe that at all. There are lots of regulations. Second, if it did apply, we should change it.

The ACA is saving millions of lives. If that is a precedent, then great.

Because of Obamacare, we'll be able to retire before we hit Medicare age and spend our time with reading and gardening and all those other non-profitable activities.
