This would get the base fired up again for 2016 after Obama wins again in 2012. And it rolls off the tongue so well: CLINTON/O'MALLEY 2016
Lets make this happen!

Anyone else you have in mind?

(6,161 posts)And don't get me wrong, I LOVE Grayson's style, but I'm looking to WIN. ALOT of people in this country view Grayson as a bit 'out there', similar to Kucinich who just recently lost.

(6,161 posts)I think he could keep Hillary to the Left while rallying that base and Hillary would win MANY Independents, women, blue collar, Unions, etc.

(2,101 posts)I watched TRMS that night and could not believe how O'Malley dominated and destroyed McDonnell, not with a personal attack that is the norm, but on his political stance. Thanks for the link!

Either way, I don't think so. There should be other prominent Democrats to step up.

(63,912 posts)with Gov. Christie in some debate and the difference between the likeable, intelligent O'Malley and the snarling, in yer face Christie was really a sight to behold! God help Christie if he is on the national ticket in 2016 against O'Malley. Or Warren, for that matter.
Warren/O'Malley would be an incredibly powerful match.

(63,912 posts)a woman candidate and Warren is more than qualified to be president, particularly after some years in the Senate.
There are more women in the legislature of Afghanistan than in the U.S. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves.

(53,661 posts)Senator Obama from winning, did it?
And it would be much better than any of the faux feministas of the GOP.
In the meantime, Obama is it for 2012.

(10,611 posts)She's said repeatedly that she doesn't want to run.
And what's this "base" of which you speak? You'll be contending with the anti-DLC crowd who want a completely fresh start. Good luck with that.

(62,683 posts)the 2008 campaign, how much Clinton hate there is. I think the Republicans hate the Clintons like we hate the Bushes. And after the woeful turnout for the mid-terms, I'm not confident the Dems are going to show up in 2016.

(11,065 posts)No more DLC'ers. No more Clintons, no more Bushes. No more family presidencies - it stinks of monarchy.
I have absolutely no damn idea who O'Malley is.
Suppose we focus on the election at hand? DU always seems to like puzzling out elections years down the road rather than the one hear and now. It smacks of politics as sport.

Let's see some up and comers in the batting line up. There are 300 million people in this country. I'm sure sure many of them will be over 35 years old in 2016, citizens by birth, and 14 years a resident.

But let's focus on 2012 first. And then 2014.

(13,616 posts)And frankly, if we learned anything these last few years, it is that we need to skew TO THE LEFT. Sadly,Clinton would have made the same mistake O did, try to make friends with the opposition.
O did not disappoint because he did not act like Clinton, but that he acted TOO MUCH like Clinton, with the same appointees, and the same "let's bring people together" error. He need someone that willo GET IN THE RIGHT WING"S FACE and smash teeth!

(13,616 posts)I do not think you will want the sort the GOP provide, and frankly, whatever can be said about Hillary, let's have no illusions about her being to the left. She has years in the senate, and on her campaign, to prove she was, but instead, she let Bill slobber all over the place. I still have hoper for the Gillibrands, the Sibeliuse, the napolitanos, and the warrens.

(63,912 posts)ONCE voted for a woman for president. My early favorite, John (may he rot in hell) Edwards, had dropped out before the primary and thank god for that.
I think a Warren/O'Malley ticket would be so attractive and appealing to so many people that it would be a natural. However, the only drawback, if that drawback still exists, would be region. Maybe Warren/Schweitzer (bringing in the mountain west states) would work better. But I'd hate to give up O'Malley.

(43,182 posts).....I love the idea of Martin O'Malley being on the 2016, whether it be top or bottom.
But I don't think Hillary's going to run. Between her and Bill, I don't think there are two people with a more impressive list of accomplishments and I think they've probably reached the apex. Bill will be doing his thing worldwide, and Hillary will be over 70, I believe. Perhaps Chelsea will be a mom by then and maybe Hillary might want to just enjoy sitting back and being a grandparent. But I don't know.
But yes definitely to O'Malley. Maryland has avoided the worst of the Great Recession thanks to O'Malley's policies, and Maryland has arguably the best public education system in the state. Plus the guy is a rock star. Literally. A rock star.

(6,819 posts)That's great - in the above post, fictional Baltimore Mayor and Md. Governor Carcetti endorses real-life Baltimore Mayor and Md. Governor O'Malley.
The writers of the The Wire insist that Carcetti was not based upon O'Malley. In fact, most of the events in the Wire are loosely based upon things that happened in Baltimore in earlier years.
Tommy_Carcetti
(43,182 posts)...however, the scene where Carcetti had to go to Annapolis to beg for school funding from the governor was straight out of an incident involving then-Mayor O'Malley and then-Governor Robert Erlich. As a nod to the situation, Erlich himself played the Governor's security guard in that scene.

(6,819 posts)I think voters will be looking for someone who cannot be blamed for the impasses in DC. O'Malley seems to be towards the top of the list for 2016.
