STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - It was long after former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky had been arrested, tried and convicted of sexually abusing 10 boys before his wife said she realized just how much trouble he was in.
In an interview this week at her home in State College, Dottie Sandusky said she still had hope even after his 45-count guilty verdict. But when the judge handed down a 30- to 60-year prison term, she said she fully comprehended his predicament.
"I think it was at the sentencing," she said during a 90-minute interview at her dining room table. "I mean, I really and truly believe, I believe in, when you tell the truth and who you are, that things work out."
"I trust my husband," she said. "That's what the world is about today. People don't trust anybody. And all these young kids, all they think about is sex."

(3,316 posts)I'm really hoping she's just delusional and wasn't a party to her husband's crimes
if she was, however, she should be locked up as well

(14,061 posts)She's using every enabling excuse out of the pedophilia playbook. It's always the victims' fault. Always.
The media should just ignore her and let her live out her days alone. I don't get why we want or need her perspective on this. We all know what she's going to say before she opens her mouth.

(100,081 posts)Sandusky could have been put away over a decade ago and this whole thing would have been just a blip. Instead Corbett as attorney general covered it up and this thing got much uglier than it should have been and completely destroyed Penn State's reputation.

The good news:
Corbett Named Most Vulnerable Gov
Written by Nick Field
Tom-Corbett-upsetGovernor Tom Corbett finds himself in the midst of a streak about as sad as that faced by the Philadelphia 76ers. For the ninth straight month, the Washington Post rated Gov. Corbett the number one most vulnerable governor in the 2014 midterm elections.

the same way spouses trust that "nothing is going wrong in my house".
So, you all are badly in need of counseling, I think.
It's okay, you can go back to your room and watch Matlock now, Dottie

(35,015 posts)Sandusky is currently fighting to get his $4900 per month pension from Penn State, with the support of his wife (of course). I think that's probably why she's getting some press.

(14,532 posts)is a piece of crap human being. She is protecting her status, that is all. I bet since her husband, Jerry Sandusky, was arrested and found guilty she has become a pariah in her social circle. Fuck her and her morals.
Dottie Sandusky, is a self centered, ignorant, heartless shell of a human. She cares as much about her husband's victims as her husband did. I hope she lives a long and bitter life.

(20,136 posts)Well, since things didn't "work out"...what does that tell you then? Perhaps your husband IS NOT telling the truth.

(1,571 posts)An unfortunate mixing of the personal and the public that is more sad than informative. Of course she trusts her husband. To admit to herself the deeply heinous truth, and her moral complicity, would destroy her psyche. Its called "splitting". She knows what's happened, she always did. She simply compartmentalized it, and mailed the door shut. Predators count on this behavior, they actively create it in a compliant spouse. She may be saying horrible things, she may even be a functioanl enabler, but she is also a victim. Trust me, years of programming brought her to those words. I'd rather we leave her to her dark closets than parade this travesty on the news.

(81,322 posts)Glad you're here! It's total denial. TOTAL denial. And yeah, I think your analysis is 100% correct. She can't really face or own the truth. Too horrible, especially if you take the next step after that - which is - the part you played in enabling it, reinforcing and covering for it, excusing it, ignoring it, and sticking your fingers into your ears and shouting "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!" You have to dehumanize and minimize this beast's accusers and the TRUE victims here, in order to prop up your myopic little world view. The truth is just too horrible to face. So you make it go away, in sheer defense. You push it off on somebody else and pretend like hell that this other person is the villain.
NOBODY likes to admit they were wrong. NOBODY likes to admit they've been fooled. NOBODY likes to admit they've been played. Or suckered. 'Cause - what does that say about you, then? And I'd bet she's cussed him out, to herself, in private. But man - let somebody else do it and she'll come at that person with machine guns and napalm.

(30,058 posts)Victims, I would believe she truly did not know the abuse was occurring or I would think she is remorseful for the crimes he inflicted on them. No, I do not blame his wife for his crimes unless she participated but the pension should go to his victims.
