Here's The Story About Noah And The Ark That They Don't Teach Children In Sunday School

http://www.businessinsider.com/the-real-noahs-ark-story-2014-3

Here's Where It Gets Weird
From Genesis, chapter nine:

20 Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard. 21He drank some of the wine and became drunk, and he lay uncovered in his tent.

This is a detail that most children from Christian homes won't remember from Sunday school.

It gets weirder.

22And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. 23Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backwards and covered the nakedness of their father; their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. 24When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him, 25he said,
‘Cursed be Canaan;
lowest of slaves shall he be to his brothers.’
26He also said,
‘Blessed by the Lord my God be Shem;
and let Canaan be his slave.
27 May God make space for* Japheth,
and let him live in the tents of Shem;
and let Canaan be his slave.’

This is truly one of the oddest stories in the Bible. There are obviously a lot of details that have been excluded.

The New Oxford Annotated Bible offers some annotations based on hundreds of years of scholarly research.

22-23: Some have speculated that Ham had sex with his father, since nakedness refers to incestuous behavior in Lev. 20.17. Nevertheless, a more common expression for sexual intercourse in Leviticus is "uncover nakedness" (e.g., 18.6, 20.18) or "lie with" (e.g., 20.11-12). Moreover, the description of Ham's brothers' contrasting behavior in v. 23 (their faces were turned away) makes clear that the problem with Ham's behavior was that he did not look away.

There are some incredibly messed up stories in the Bible so it has some very tough competition when it comes to the oddest story of the Bible. The Old Testament is so insane that many Christians will get offended if you even quote from the inconvenient parts of it, they say it is no longer relevant but they still continue to cite the Ten Commandments and the creation story which are also Old Testament.

I am going to go see the Noah movie today though, it was made by an atheist who happens to be one of the best directors of our time so this looks like one of the few Biblical movies worth seeing. The story may be crazy, but crazy works well for Darren Aronofsky films.

I remember reading that stuff as a kid and wondering who the hell these strange people were. They certainly didn't seem to be role models or 'good' people. I remember thinking god was incredibly angry and spent his time taking revenge on his people. Then the new testament and the whole vibe changes.

Reading the bible created a lot of questions for me, and I never had them answered to my satisfaction. A story book, nothing more.

And then picking out one specific verse to take so damn literal and base my dogma on that. -signed Frankie the Fundamentalist.

The bible in its current form is a thousands year old form of the telephone game. It's amazing that some try to take it so damn literal and get mad when others don't fall in line.

Yes, the Noah STORY is one of the weirdest in a book full of bizarre stories.

I have very little faith in anything the bible says...since it was written hundreds of years after Christ died. Yeah, take Rockwells telephone painting and put biblical clothes on them and it will illustrate the story of the writing of the bible.

from changing. And the New Testament in its original Greek form changed little when looking at ancient versions scholars have found.

However, the differences are in the translations and interpretations. In that case, I agree with you.

But those who read the Old and New Testament in the original languages (Hebrew and Greek) are reading words that have passed down through the ages. That is why scholars genuinely interested in them learn to read Hebrew and Greek.

rendered by following the numeric values of each letter written.

It is more of tool for meditation… for keeping ones attention on one focus.

The story of a flood wiping out much of the Earth is pretty widespread in antiquity, isn't it?

A wooden boat built to carry two of every species (including dinosaurs?) would be a feat of perfect engineering in modern times, if possible at all. Even if one was built and floated, an Earth covered in water would likely be a bit turbulent.

Why do so many Christians seem to not be at all concerned with the New Testament?

has two daughters sleeping with their drunken father, intentionally, to get pregnant. Presumably that was better than the male line dying out. The father didn't know about it. I forget if it was Noah or Moses or someone else.

It is in Genesis near the above story.
