Pretty good shaking!
About 20 seconds...
Time to rock and roll, folks!
On edit: it stopped my pendulum clock! No other "damage."

Makes sense it was right under us.

Very sinous movement, and um still going on... a bit

(15,805 posts)That's where I live. I didn't hear any noise, but the recliner was moving so much I couldn't stand up. The dinning room chandelier was swaying and the ceiling fan was wobbling. Scared my kitty who was snoozing on my lap and he went dashing around the room looking very startled and confused.

(1,537 posts)About 15 seconds long, rolling, not that strong here but knew it was a quake.

(8,155 posts)That's very, very shallow.

(149,629 posts)No wonder I felt it so strongly.
Thanks for that data.

(12,659 posts)But I'm up in the coastal mesas, and sometimes, that can create a shadow zone, depending on the intervening ground types.
Hold on, looks like you've got quite a few aftershocks going on.

(53,339 posts)(The big one was just downgraded to 5.1).
KCAL is reporting only a 5% chance that these will be followed by something bigger.

(89,251 posts)there was an earthquake about a week ago but it was early morning. it was short but woke me up . i wonder if that was centered in the same one as this.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)They just said that a minute ago in a live press conference from USGS at CalTech (KCAL is carrying it live)--just ended now.

(16,954 posts)I thought getting out of the building was the best, but I'm not up on my earthquake preparedness regime. It's been awhile.

(50,130 posts)If you run outside, you can get hit by falling debris. Bricks, light poles, windows, whatever
dixiegrrrrl
(60,010 posts)to think NOW about the best place to go in a strong quake.
for some, outside is best..esp. if you live in a mobile home. and if there is no chance of tall buildings dropping down on you.
for others, being inside under a sturdy covering might be best.
And much depends on how bad the quake is..but of course you have no way of knowing that when one hits.

Looking for damage. We might have some due to the depth. Not even 2 km

(16,954 posts)I checked your profile to see if you were in SoCal since you posted in this thread, and I saw your Pancho's reference. Is that what you're referencing. That place is so wonderful. Expensive, but excellent.

(80,708 posts)I spent a good chunk of my life in Northern CA.
The "dinner at Pancho's" thing I actually just copied from google calendar, it's like the default text that comes up when you add a date to it. I actually was curious as to why it was there, apparently it is believed to be a sort of "Right Stuff" reference- Pancho's Happy Bottom Riding Club.
R B Garr
(16,954 posts)And when you're visiting your friend in Venice, you should have him/her take you to Pancho's in Manhattan Beach. Parking is bad like anything in the beach area, but there's valet, and the place is really good. Apparently it's known for celebrities going there, but they say that about a lot of places in the L.A. area.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)My buddy has lived there for decades. He likes to go to the place where you can pick up like, 30 tostadas for 5 bucks or something. Forgot the name but it is tasty.

66. Local news covered the this might be foreshocks
With prof Gregg Abbott of sdsu. He said that this is reminiscent to Whittier in the 1980s and...that there is no way to tell.
Abbott did emphasize the same thing I did after I saw the data...shallow quake.
Turned scanners off...and decided to turn in the actual news channel.

(89,251 posts)they were still stuck on the plane thing . local news is all over it though and sounds like it was pretty strong in the la habra area.

(585 posts)And I haven't heard a word. I suppose they might have mentioned it briefly when I was out of the room, but I don't think so.

(89,251 posts)but the "breaking news" was always the lack of news about the plane .
