I chipped a tooth when I bit into a Chili's burger in the Dallas Airport and found a rather large bone. The manager told me "Don't worry, our insurance will cover this." I wanted to get the tooth checked out and x-rayed - repaired if needed.
Their insurance claims adjuster called me today and told me that their corporate position is that since they do not actually MAKE the burger on-site, it is not their fault. Thus they will not stand behind their shitty burger. Instead, it is the meat packers fault and I should call them. I asked him if we should not take back a little further, like maybe the rancher who raised the beef in the first place.
Welcome to Corporate Amerika! Would you like some Koch with your burger?

(14,255 posts)Chili's will not want the bad publicity, although if they are at an airport, they likely do not rely on local traffic.
I would have thought they would want to settle things quickly in order to shut you up.
Basically, they should pay and then go after the supplier.

(42,759 posts)whoever they get their table salt from could be giving them ground glass and it's OK.
When they put out contracts to suppliers there should be some standards specified.

I agree with the people who say "make a big stink". Get on social media all over the place and let people know about this. A piece of bone in a hamburger is a big deal----turns me off to the max. How shitty is their source of meat that this is even possible?

(6,843 posts)However, the manager wrote down all of the information to contact the insurance adjuster. I have the information in his handwriting. I just cannot believe that this is what this country has come to. Some cheap ass uses such poor quality ground beef in a burger that you hit a bone, and then they claim it is not their fault.
I sure did not source their low-grade burger. It makes me wonder what kind of by-products are going into it? pink slime? bone meal? Jesus, it is kind of scary.
I buy my burger at Costco and with teenage boys we go through a lot of it. No one ever hit a bone from Costco burger in my house.

(18,219 posts)I think that few people have ever had bone in any of their hamburger, so they would be grossed out at the thought of it. I have bought some really low quality hamburger in my life, and I have had some gristle a few times, but never a bone. Bone meal? LOL, they forgot to make it "meal".

(1,537 posts)At this point Chili's has left it up the the insurance company and they hope you will go away. The best thing to do is contact the GM of the restaurant, explain your situation and ask for the name of their supervisor. Call the supervisor of the GM, explain your situation and go up the next rung on the ladder and hopefully at one point someone will be willing to expedite your complaint and resolve it. Mention that you would rather deal with Chili's to resolve this rather than involve a lawyer, social media or local television coverage. Being polite will help and not be perceived as weakness and following the chain of command will ensure that someone will probably not want your case to be continually "kicked upstairs". Hope this helps and if you have any questions for me shoot!

(5,128 posts)That's where I would take at this point. I live in Dallas and have knowledge of and have worked with restaurant and airport.
