The worst thing that could happen to a pol was to be caught in a lie by a reporter.

At least that was the way it was ages ago when I was in politics. Christie is representative of the current breed of GOP politicians. They clearly don't care about telling lies but they also don't even care if their lie is remotely plausible.The combination of alternate universe reportage from Fox and the complicit/ignorant/lazy corporate news media allows this kind of bull shit to be fobbed off as fact. Republicans have learned that when caught with their hands in the cookie jar, the safe course is to set up a counter story and rely on their numerous flacks to treat bald face lies as truth.
