GA Restaurant Apologizes For Chris Brown/Rihanna Black & Bleu Burger Special

Ugh, good morning: Georgia restaurant Chops & Hops ran a Black & Bleu Burger as their special on Friday, but for some reason decided to dedicate the "celebrity sandwich" to Chris Brown and Rihanna. You know, because Brown was arrested for physically assaulting Rihanna the night before the 2009 Grammys. Oh, and they had this to add: "Chris Brown won't beat you up for eating this unless your name starts with a R and ends with A." Well, that's charming.

So, the restaurant has since apologized and will be donating a sum to domestic violence prevention/advocacy group Project Safe:

The owners of C&H would like to make sure everyone knows that we and our staff DO NOT SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Many of us have been affected by domestic violence in some manner and realize that this is no joke.
We have been involved in fundraising for Project Safe Team 6 and we fully intend on donating proceeds (times 6 - in honor of Team 6) from the sales of the burger. C&H continues to strive for a community driven, family oriented, great food and great service environment. We will continue to be involved in our community fundraising and charities near and dear to our hearts.

If they realize it's not a joke then why were they, um, joking about it? Anyway, since the burger was just a special on Friday it's no longer on the menu.

I suppose. But one could just as easily argue that this increases awareness of domestic violence. Quantess Mar 2012 #6

Which is more offensive, the physical assault or the cynical burger special? I don't see any reason to apoligize for the burger.

However, I think the restaurant is sending the wrong message to their customers, that physical abuse is funny. I wonder how funny the abuse victim would feel when his/her SO, to "apologize" for beating the crap out of him/her the nite before, takes him/her to this restaurant and "jokingly" says, "Hey, you should try the Black and Blue Burger!"

Ha. Ha. Ha.

An apology is acceptable, imo. They made a stupid mistake.

I suspect all it would do is make people uncomfortable, if it "hit too close to home" (sorry, that pun actually was unintended).

I'd prefer they did it with something less offensive. I'd hate to see what they'd come up with to increase awareness of child abuse, though.

Restaurants that "name" dishes after people/events, should be very careful with their choices. not everyone "appreciates" their "cleverness"..
