Most guys his age with a bad heart have had a good life, and according ot their belief, will go to Heaven.

Cheny is scared shitless, knowing how corrupt he is and was, and all the crimes against humanity he will be (according to his beliefs) joining Hitler and Stalin being punished for.

So Cheney is deserately trying to stave off the inevitable.

3. Most people believe they are good, if not

wonderful. It doesn't seem to matter very much if they were actually pretty awful and did a lot of bad things; they still believe themselves to be inherently good and worthy of heaven (if they believe in heaven). People also rationalize their bad behavior and play up their good behavior. It would not surprise me in the least to find out that Cheney thinks he is a great person.

Personally I think he got the heart because he had the cash and the resources, and like a lot of us, wanted to continue living.

They do that for show. The reality of it is something more like Voldemort and his 7 horcruxes that contain fragments of his "soul". It is rumored that these are so radioactive that they must be kept in lead-lined vaults 8 feet thick, sequestered in what are supposed to be missile silos.
