http://bluntandcranky.wordpress.com/2014/03/24/obama-recently-ordered-military-action-and-we-won-you-never-heard-about-it-did-you/"Yes, that weak, indecisive, mom-jeans-wearing President of ours just ordered a military strike against Middle-Eastern terrorists. They kicked some Libyan Rebel butt. And the news media kinda sort reported on it. Here is the story: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/18/world/middleeast/libya-oil-tanker.html?_r=0
Youll notice this went down a week or so ago, when the airwaves were filled with Foxish, Rushish, Rightish bashing-on-the-wimpy-black-Prexy noise; small wonder that this story got minimal coverage. But contrary to the prevailing wisdom, our Prexy saw a threat to Libyas democratically-elected government and ordered a military strike to save said government. Oh, and that is the same Libyan government that Republicans accuse Obama of being such a little nancy-boy about (hint: Benghazi).
So why didnt you hear about this? A simple reason: the news media is largely controlled by people who hates them some Obama: http://www.businessinsider.com/these-6-corporations-control-90-of-the-media-in-america-2012-6 So, if you heard about this at all, it was a few plaudits to to the SEALS who carried out the attack. In fact, they deserved a lot more and better coverage, as did the rest of the command and control apparatus. And yes, that includes the President, no matter what that great military expert Sarah Palin may have to say about it.
As noted before on this blog, the infotainment machine wouldnt know real news if it bit them on the ass: http://wp.me/p2jksg-2kb And this is but another example of that phenomenon. If youre relying on less than, say, ten or more news sources, you are getting the Mushroom Treatment.
This writer mistrusts the corporate media, so he listens to it, and then checks a load of other sources, including foreign media outlets, and even some of the fringe whacko sites here in the USA. Nothing goes onto this blog without being subjected to the crankiest of analyses: its a pity that, say, Fox News cant take the time to do the same.
So, please, Gentle Reader, take a few minutes and stroll around the InterTubes, to see what is going on. That is to say, what ELSE is going on that the bean-counters and Raging Righties in their Tightie Whities dont want you to know. Todays example: despite the lies that are being spewed, President Obama is capable of ordering swift, decisive military action (like he also did when he caught Bin Laden).
Good one, Mr. President. Way to give the terrorist scumbuckets one in the eye. Even if (or especially if) hardly anyone gives you credit for it."
Enrique
(27,461 posts)the credible story in Foreign Policy, presumably what this blogger is referring to, calls the people who took the tanker "federalists". The article makes essentially the same point, that Obama did something good without getting credit, without calling the group "terrorists."
Does Blunt and Cranky have a reason to juice it up and make them "terrorists?" Or is anyone the U.S. defeats militarily by definition a terrorist?

(45,488 posts)Don't have to be happy about it, but it was the right move. Hell of a lot better than a multinational occupation of Libya following months of shock and awe.
Of course if things had gone wrong we'd never hear the end of it.

(13,986 posts)DU tends to be more up on the news than, say, Fox or CNN. Thus the MSM blasting in the OP, and the total absence of DU bashing.

(65,616 posts)Don't you find it profoundly SAD that a liberal website is up on the news more than the Billion dollar news industry? I guess I get spoiled on DU. It shouldn't be that way.

(9,289 posts)The true story of a daring President who took a huge political gamble to rescue a fledgling Arab democracy threatened by cutthroat pirates with scary tattoos and stuff. The movie reaches its thrilling climax when the three pirates, surrounded by Navy Seals, throw down their muskets and surrender without a fight. A delightful parrot named "Qadaffi" provides needed comic relief.

fuck all warmongers and a particular place in hell should be designated for those who cheer on military action because they think it makes a politician they adore, look tough.

(26,549 posts)The headline of the NYT article is "SEAL Team Raids a Tanker and Thwarts a Militias Bid to Sell Libyan Oil", for example.
There were no bombs involved.

(13,986 posts)In any case, the point of the OP was that the MSM spends far too much time repeating Repub talking points, and suppressing any facts or stories that do not fit in with their pro-Koch message.
Whether or not we should be taking such actions is a worthy topic, but it's not what I addressed in the OP.
