I just attended the Santa Rosa Film Festival screening of the new film "Who Bombed Judi Bari?

Last edited Mon Mar 26, 2012, 12:22 AM - Edit history (1)

This is a very powerful film! It is a documentary about Judi Bari & Darryl Cherney, the Earth First! activists who were the targets of a car-bombing in Oakland, CA, then successfully sued the FBI and the Oakland Police for making them out to be terrorists carrying the bomb. Darryl is the co-producer of the movie, along with Mary Liz Thomson.

I met some really cool activists there. One woman has been on the Sea Shepherd crew since the 80s. Another was one of the very early Earth First! tree-sitters.

There was a panel discussion afterwards. Great event!

The film will be shown tomorrow at Occupy Oakland. (7:30 PM, outside city hall), and will be going into theaters before long.

What happened in this case was just as bad was what happened in the T Martin killing.

Cannot wait to see the movie and hope it inspires many other to take action and continue the fight for environmental equality.

He was one of the panel members. A representative from EPIC was there too, still work going on to stop clear-cuts. Check www.wildcalifornia.org

Some of them tried to kill motorcycle racers (I beleive in the Barstow/Vegas race). And I have good reason to beleive that several cars at the Mt. Washington hillclimb were sabotaged, while "activists" were protesting a land deal between the Auto Road company and the Forest Service. I was on the crew of one of the cars involved. The next year, we were under armed guard....

It's certainly not their style to try to kill people.

You made an accusation about them trying to kill motorcycle racers, but aren't sure what race it was? That sounds a lot like second-hand "information" to me. Actually, it sounds like BS. Out of curiosity, what year are you referring to?

Also, keep in mind that Earth First!, operated without actual leaders (much like Occupy) for quite some time, and have been the subjects of a lot of untruthful accusations of terrorism.

Do you have any actual evidence, or are you just spreading manure?

I beleive it happened in the late '70's/early 80's. A barricade was constructed in a tunnel underpassing a highway - and you cannot see what's in a tunnel when you enter it from daylight. I IRC, the race was Barstow- Vegas, and the sanctioning body was SCORE. The bike racers discovered it first, because they were "first on the road" under the SCORE sanction. And, yes, much like the Mt. Washington incedent(s), I'm perfectly willing to beleive that it was the work of a Hayduke wanna-be. I have no doubt that the FBI had to do with the car bombing in the OP - it fits their style of picking the lowest of the low as snitches/provocatuers - witness the Whitey Bulger case.

But where are these folks when REAL enviromental crimes are being committed? Northern New England is a hotbed of nasty-ass hazardous waste dumps. Look up the history of the Berwick Barrel/Berwick Trucking/ BS Leasing site, in Plainfield, NH, or the several dumps along rt. 125 in the Epping/Kingston area.

Exactly! Any "Hayduke wanna-be" could have been responsible. No reason to broad brush EF with hate.

Clear-cutting of ancient old-growth redwood forests is "REAL enviromental crimes." Don't blame the brave activists on our north coast, who have shown they have the heart for direct actions, for the lack of enthusiasm for stopping environmental crimes elsewhere. Anyone can join Earth First!, and fight the mofos. What you are really saying is that we need more of them, so I guess we agree.
