that exonerates him! They didn't talk to Wildstein, they didn't talk to Bridget Kelly, they didn't talk to Stepien, They didn't talk to Dawn Zimmer but they can conclude Christie is in the clear. Thank's Mr. Mastro, that was some top notch legal work you did there. Like Carnac the Magnificent, holding an envelope up to his forehead and declaring Christie Is In The Clear! Open it up and the answer is "the results of the governor's own internal investigation". Who'd a thunk it? Official misconduct, obstruction of justice, extortion...those words are nowhere to be found (not that anyone expected it). Chalk up whatever the taxpayers have now forked out for Mr. Mastro's sham of a report to the $50 million or so Christie burned from the Sandy funds (that we know about). What a joke! (I mean fiscal conservative)
With his office suddenly engulfed in scandal over lane closings at the George Washington Bridge, Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey two months ago summoned a pair of top defense lawyers from an elite law firm to the State House and asked them to undertake an extensive review of what had gone wrong.
Now, after 70 interviews and at least $1 million in legal fees to be paid by state taxpayers, that review is set to be released, and according to people with firsthand knowledge of the inquiry, it has uncovered no evidence that the governor was involved in the plotting or directing of the lane closings.
The review is the first of multiple inquiries into a scandal that has jeopardized Mr. Christies political future. It will be viewed with intense skepticism, not only because it was commissioned by the governor but also because the firm conducting it, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, has close ties to the Christie administration and the firms lawyers were unable to interview three principal players in the shutdowns, including Bridget Anne Kelly, the governors former deputy chief of staff.
But lawyers from the team who led the inquiry are prepared to vigorously defend their work, which they described as an unfettered look into the inner workings of an administration known to prize loyalty and privacy.

Now that was taxpayer funded farce.

(2,419 posts)even at the rate of $650/hour (which is outrageous for government work!) this represents over 1500 hours of lawyer's time. In just over two months? Let alone the sheer waste that this represents, how could that much billable time be on the books? What a boondoggle for this firm. Reminds me of this:
A lawyer dies and goes to heaven. When he gets to the pearly gates St. Peter is waiting for him. The lawyer says to St. Peter "there must be some mistake! I'm too young to die. I'm only 50 years old". St. Peter consults his book, takes out a calculator and enters some figures, makes a few notes then looks up and replies "That's funny, according to your billable hours you're 106!"

(273 posts)You've got to be kidding me. Over a million bucks for two months of legal work? A million bucks for a joke of a report? The state's roads are a mess, the budget is a nightmare, the state's credit rating is going down, but we've got over a million dollars for Giuliani's toadie to clear Christie?

(6,719 posts)Of course they found him in the clear. That is what they were paid to do. Another scam.

(2,419 posts)will be touting this report at his Town Hall meeting in Belmar tomorrow! And then the crowd of Christie sycophants will go wild. Especially the 5 guys with the American Legion caps in the front row who have been at every single one.

(2,419 posts)that not only is Christie innocent, his inner circle of senior staff is absolved as well. I can't wait to see the report at 11:30 today! I'll be sure to spread the word that this was all just a "rush to judgement" of the poor misunderstood governor and his little band of cronies.
An internal review commissioned by Gov. Chris Christies administration not only clears the governor of involvement in the controversial closure of lanes to the George Washington Bridge, but also additional members of his inner circle, according to a published report.
The 300-page review will be released later this morning in concert with a news conference at the New York offices of the law firm Gibson Dunn and Crutcher, which conducted the review. The full report, with exhibits and appendices, will be available at 11:30 a.m. at: www.GDCReport.com.
Christie will appear in a taped interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC World News that will air tonight. The governor hasnt held one of his once-frequent news conferences since Jan. 9.
Led by attorney Randy Mastro, Gibson Dunns findings narrow responsibility for planning the September lane closures to Christies former deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly and David Wildstein, a former ally of the governor and top official at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Wall Street Journal reported today.
Citing a person familiar with the findings, the newspaper reported that no one else in Christies senior staff was involved in the closures or cover up.
