Beaumont couple gets permit to hunt mountain lion that killed puppy

BEAUMONT, Calif. (KABC) -- A Beaumont couple now has a permit to kill a mountain lion after their puppy was killed in a vicious attack.

"There were four puncture wounds in his neck," said the dog's owner, Mark Adams.

Adams says his family's French bull dog puppy, Mickey Blue, never had a chance against the large mountain lion that jumped the wall into his backyard on March 17.

"She heard the male dog bark three times, he doesn't usually bark. She looks out the window, she saw a thing in our backyard. She beat on the window, got its attention," he said.

The mountain lion dropped Mickey Blue and fled back over the fence. Their other puppy, Annie, narrowly escaped.

If wildlife becomes a problem there are trained professionals to deal with it, why license amateurs seeking revenge?

The proper method is to evaluate for relocation, then trap and transport. Killing a lion should be a last resort and should be handled by DNR.

but the police won't allow them to shoot inside city limits? I think the police could make an exception in this case.

And another case in Fontana where a lion killed a German Shepard in somebody's backyard.

Some don't feel any humans other than the government should own guns - so they won't be able to defend themselves against attacks from such animals. If one feels that way than the government has a duty to do something about the problem and should be held responsible/liable when problems occur.

Others feel we are encroaching on their land and if they eat you or your pet/kids that is the cost you pay for having a home there.

My thoughts: let people own guns and defend their own land. If the critter got in and got away you don't go hunting after it on the land of others. If others see it as a threat and it is on their land they can defend themselves and others.

You know you live in area where they prowl, you didn't properly defend your property, lesson learned.
