In a few days all the speculators will crawl back into their holes

A mechanical failure of some sort took place on that aircraft. The latest real information is that Malaysian military radar tracked the plane's altitude changing drastically from 35,000ft to as low as 12,000ft (which is precisely what eyewitnesses observed) and the plane turned left - more like pilots trying to save an aircraft and not no fugging terrorism.
The experts will solve this one - not the idiots looking ratings or book sales.

It's probably drifted hundreds of miles away from where the plane is and the water is more than two miles deep. It might be years before the plane is found, if it ever is.

After investing all their time and resources in this CNN better hope another station doesn't break the real news on this one - all CNN has been breaking is hot air as in gas.

in the Malacca Strait, towards the Andamans. How can you call that a left turn, and trying to save the aircraft?

29. Flight MH370 'crashed in south Indian Ocean' - Malaysia PM

<snip>
Malaysia's prime minister has announced that missing flight MH370 crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

Najib Razak said this was the conclusion of fresh analysis of satellite data tracking the flight.

Malaysia Airlines had told the families of the 239 people on board, he said.

Earlier the BBC saw a text message sent to families by the airline saying it had to be assumed "beyond reasonable doubt" that the plane was lost and there were no survivors.

Based on new analysis, the UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch and Inmarsat, the UK company that provided satellite data, "have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth," Mr Razak said.

Quite a bit of certainty.

No one knows. That is the reason for the speculation. It's natural given the mystery.

He told me that the jets he uses have some sort of automated program that kicks in where there's a sudden loss of cabin pressure. The jet will execute a left turn while dropping altitude because that's less hazardous than simply dropping the nose while staying in a straight line. The jet will level out when it reaches a pre-determined "safe" altitude.
