I work with a woman who leans very rethug here in GA. She's had endless health problems at the age of 31, is going in for a partial hysterectomy next month associated with all the pain and problems she's had.
This morning she FINALLY signed up for Obamacare, and is she ever thrilled! She has a platinum plan with Humana, and dental for about $24 monthly total. Her coverage won't kick in until May, but she was over the moon. AND, she has a big mouth so will be sharing this good news with her friends and family. I kept after her, and she called to thank me. So there!
Darn you, Obama! (I kid!)

(24,096 posts)this is what is terrifying the Pugs and Baggers and the Etcs., this good news cannot be contained and is killing them and their plans to destroy everything and build it from scratch into a perfect lego town planet.

(24,721 posts)who's renting a former elderly neighbor's house. He told my husband that he was thankful to have Obamacare. I was thrilled to hear that & asked my husband if the guy is a Democrat, but my husband didn't ask. The elderly former neighbor & my husband had gotten into a heated discussion long ago about Reagan/Ollie North during the Iran-contra days, so my husband stays away from political conversations with neighbors.
In addition to that, I know a Republican who was grateful that he could put his newly-married-&-struggling son on his insurance plan, thanks to Obamacare.

(17,528 posts)He was beginning to lean Rethug as a small business owner. But now he says he'll vote 100& Democratic just to help make sure the ReThugs don't repeal ACA and he's going to spread the word.

(22,308 posts)It was my understanding that only the Silver plans had reduced costs based on income.
She may still be getting the subsidy, but If this is accurate, and presumably she is fairly low income, then she may have huge deductibles and out of pocket maximum.
You should ask her again what plan she has. If it really is a platinum she might want to look into a Silver while she still has time to switch.
Even so, it is great to hear another story about the good this is doing. I seem to be running into the threads about how terrible the law is for the individuals here who have an incorrect bill or who are not bright enough to call the pharmaceutical company to find a way to afford needed medications.
This was a nice change of pace, thanks.

(171,102 posts)her healthcare in it's entirety, as are mine. And you are correct, we don't make a lot of money. The additional payout is for dental.
I may have misspoke; it may be silver, I can't remember now. I have one or the other but have not used it yet-am also thrilled to finally be covered again.

(22,308 posts)I pay about $45 plus another $30 for dental.
The Silver plans have lower deductibles, co-pays and maximum out of pocket. These are also based on income, as are the subsidies which lower the cost of the premium.
For myself, and my sister who I work with, the Silver plans were by far the best. I looked at Platinum but the costs were much higher for us.
I'm pretty sure your coworker has a Silver plan. Odds are you do also.
It still wouldn't hurt to double check since the open enrollment ends so soon. You can still switch things up until the end of the month.
