Westboro Baptist Church Protest Met With 'Sorry For Your Loss' Sign

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/westboro-baptist-church-lorde-concert-sorry-for-your-loss

Westboro Baptist Church members were met with a notable counter-protest at their first protest since the group's founder died: a sign that read "sorry for your loss."

Counter-protesters held up the sign at a Westboro Baptist Church protest of a Lorde concert in Kansas City, the first protest by the group since founder Fred Phelps died. More than 20 Westboro Baptist Church members were protesting the Lorde concert.

"We realized that it wasn't so much about antagonizing them but sending out the countered safe that we are here for people who need that message and need that positivity" Megan Coleman, who helped make the sign, said according to Kansas' KSHB.

The message didn't get across to all Westboro members.

"I don't even know what they're saying," Westboro Baptist Chuch member Steve Drain said.

Of course, he doesn't know what they are saying. It's called "compassion", Mr. Drain. You should try to get some.

Even if the people holding that sign are not Christians, they "get it" better than Westboro ever has.

and WBC-ers don't know what that is.

I'm no christian, but I think the spirit of, "Sorry for your loss" is what the teacher, J. Christ, meant in his gospels.

and the reason the churchmember said what he did is of course because he is lost himself, and because phelps is now lost, but also - more to the churchmember's point - because they excommunicated him weeks ago.

can't help but wonder what that inside story is about. besides their press release that essentially he'd gone soft in his last moments, advocating "a kinder approach."

what a monster he created, eh?

sign is admirable, I doubt any members of Westboro, or any other similar haters, will even begin to understand it. People like that are so locked in their world view that nothing else gets through.

The best way to protest hate is stand before the haters with open arms.

Now, I suppose that's what Somebody meant by "turn the other cheek."

Those that protested against this bigot have absolutely no reason to feel "sorry" about anything.

Of course, the WBC members wouldn't understand since condolences has more than two syllables.
