3 kids found starving in home, 1 chained to wall

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/03/21/3-kids-found-starving-in-home/6723177/

SALINAS, Calif. -- A couple under arrest in Monterey County have been accused of severely neglecting their three children, one of whom was chained to a wall in their house.

The 8-year-old girl was skeletal thin and had hardly eaten in months, officials said.

Monterey County Sheriff Scott Miller described the scene as "one of those cases that sticks with you for some time."

"When you've got over 30 years in the business, you've seen way too many of these types of things before," he said. "But this is, in terms of child abuse and neglect, this is toward the top."

OMG, how horrible.

Only the youngest boy is biologically related to one of the women; the two other children had been adopted, he said.

I have very little good to say about foster parenting and adoption.

A lot of people are not aware that some adoptions bring subsidies. When they work, they help families adopt kids who would otherwise face a life in foster care. But when they fail, some use adopted kids as a means of income, sometimes with horrific results.

I've yet to see a solution to this problem that doesn't affect the good people.

Why would they be any less corrupt than domestic adoptions? There's money to be made there.

Do you have any evidence at all that adoptees are more likely to be abused by their adoptive parents than those who are with their natural parents are to be abused by them? If so, then maybe you have a valid point, if not, then we should just sterilize everyone so no children are ever abused again.

and adoption (particularly international adoption) is filled with huge problems. Foster parenting is a nightmare.

What the solution is, I have no idea, but both situations have big problems.
