The Little Protest That Could

In late January, I found out that NC Gov. Pat McCrory would be keynote speaker at a Chamber of Commerce event in my little RED town of Statesville.

So I contacted a couple of my friends and asked if they would protest with me. I started out with 4 people: An artist, a teacher, a writer and a vineyard owner. All from the outskirts of the county.

Through social media (mostly Facebook) it seemed like I might get 25 or 30 people. Then a few non-profit orgs showed interest. But it snowed. The protest was postponed. When McCrory rescheduled so did we.

And like a Pheonix rising from the ashes we came back stronger than before.

I have heard that Rev. Barber will speak to the crowd, which is now projected to be between 300 and 500 people.

Don't ever let anybody tell you that one person can't make a difference.

If people weren't so fired up, it would have fizzled on it's own.
