The Malaysian spokesperson said the investigation had revealed the plane was commandeered. He said this situation was an unprecedented one, and that was one of the reasons it was difficult to solve. He listed several ways in which the plane could have been taken by force - one was that one of the pilots was involved in the scheme, perhaps a passenger was behind it. He confirmed a lot of what had been reported earlier in the day, such as the plane had continued to ping the satellite for four hours after communications had been broken off.
They were discontinuing the search in the China Sea and were focusing on an ocean search in the opposite direction. 45 ships were looking for debris in the Indian Ocean, as well as planes flying overhead.
The entire search area was determined by establishing the latitude of how far the plane could have flown with the amount of available fuel it had.
There was no startling announcement containing information we had not previously learned. He did say he was aware of the extreme need for information to be given to the relatives of the passengers and they were doing all they could.
