I don't know why he's being called a part of a "neighborhood watch group"...
I still don't understand how Zimmerman is being called that. Did he call himself that?
Because it's BS.
Unless it's part of a narrative to make it seem ok...
that he pursed and shot Trayvon Martin who was doing nothing but walking back to his Aunt's home.
It's driving me crazy that he's being called part of a group. He was a group of one.
And even if he was part of a neighborhood watch (which he wasn't), it still wouldn't make it ok.
This is BS.

(4,187 posts)Several stories list that he wasn't part of any kind of group.
I don't know that there is one official watch group site.
I think you can pick which organization to form your group with....or you just form a group.

I also like how this article says:

(4,187 posts)Furthermore, Wendy Dorival, a local police officer who coordinates neighborhood watch programs, says that she told Zimmerman in September 2011 never to take matters into his own hands:
I said, If its someone you dont recognize, call us. Well figure it out. . . Observe from a safe location.' Theres even a slide about not being vigilante police. I dont know how many more times I can repeat it.

(18,585 posts)The media packaged up the story in a nice bundle, and damned if they'll pick it apart for you or me.
Their language choices are an intentional attempt to keep eyes glued to the screen / paper while their corporate masters parade their wares. Every element that they can tack on targets another demographic.
'Neighborhood Watch' targets the old farts in suburban generica, safe and secure in their retirement communities, or the up-and-coming in their yuppie concentration camps.
And yes, I'm cynical of the media, if you couldn't tell, hehe.

(4,524 posts)Nobody has ever officially recognized my title. In fact, I just made it up after I read this post.
Oh wait, the one difference is that I have no urge to run around the neighborhood with a gun and harass people. Other than that, my title is as meaningful as Zimmerman's.
I wish the news would stop using the term "neighborhood watch Captain" like it means something.
