Tea Party and Occupy working together vs ALEC in Georgia! LOOK OUT!

GA Tea Party: 'Happy We've Reached Across Party Lines' To Stop ALEC Bill Limiting Protests

In a rare confluence of interests, the Georgia Tea Party Patriots joined with Occupy Atlanta, unions and the local LGBT community in protesting an ALEC-friendly bill that would place severe restrictions on public protests and the collection of union dues. This coalition has got to be making the state politicians very, very nervous, since it's in their best interests to keep us all divided. Via Daily Kos:

Georgia Senate Bill 469, which looks to place extreme limits on picketing, brought together an unlikely coalition of protesters at the Capital building on Saturday. The crowd, estimated at upwards of one thousand strong, was made up of local union members, Occupy Atlanta protesters, and many other groups who see the law as a violation of free speech and their right to peacefully assemble. Ben Speight of Teamsters Local 728 told the Atlanta Journal- Constitution:

"This is an extreme attack on our basic democratic rights. It's also an attempt to bankrupt and destroy our unions."

Occupy Atlanta participated in the event because the law prohibits protesting outside residences, making it impossible to demonstrate at CEO homes. The law has both an anti-union and anti-Occupy bias, not surprising considering four of the State Senators behind the bill are American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) members.

I'm thinking, any time Occupy & Tea Party can work together, it's a BAD DAY for our Corporate Overlords!

1. Very nice. Labels and the win/lose game are less important than getting the job done.

are delivering a very close message to OWS.

Get money out of politics.
Get corporate influences out of politics.
Care about main street - not Wall Street.

....realize WE have more in common with each other
than we have in common with out Rich Overlords (1%) and their puppets in Washington,
THEN, we can have "CHANGE".

Until then, the Status Quo will be maintained with only very minor adjustments around the edges.

You will know them by their WORKS.

9. This can happen when the issues are freedom-related and not economic

It's maybe the third case like this I've seen mentioned. The second also had to do with protest rights and the third was something involving eminent domain.

I wouldn't at all mind seeing the country arrive at a point where the main division was left-libertarian vs. right-libertarian -- and there was general agreement that corporations and government both ought to kept within limits.

For that to happen, though, there would have to be a new source of social authority. Right now, one of our problems is that when the corporations start getting exploitative -- as in the case of fracking, for example -- there's nothing that can trump them except government. And when government gets stupidly bureaucratic and nit-picky, there's nowhere to turn except the corporations.

If there were someplace else to turn for health care, education, protection of the environment, and all the other services we expect a modern society to provide that didn't have the limitations of both big government and big business, I think we'd be amazed how many of the current political divisions simply evaporate.
