I do get so tired of arguing these arguments over and over. And, yes, I know Facebook is, in general, a toxic medium.
A writer friend (that's why she's in my FB) whom I know to be a total crackpot (shadow lizard government, etc.) and whose feed I mostly hide, started in with the old "there are no atheists in foxholes" chestnut. Couldn't let it go. Just couldn't. I know so many believers who expect--nay, DEMAND--respect for their particular brand of belief, that I was damned insulted. (In hindsight, maybe my response calling her deity a sky wizard might not have been the best choice of words)
And so ensueth the shitstorm, which threatens to engulf large groups of loosely affiliated people, who, under normal circumstances, get along fine.
C'mon, DU. Remind me that I'm bigger than that and I need to let it go. Or, DUers, let this be a lesson to you. Hide the post and move on. Learn from my fail.

(30,676 posts)Just laugh at her conviction. It doesn't matter if there are atheists in foxholes or not. NOBODY knows what happens after death. And a quick prayer at the end or years of devotion will make no difference to the Almighty or the Big Empty. She knows no more than anyone about the hereafter.
