"Shame that the Republican leaders in Oklahoma could not have acted with dignity toward Pres. Obama"

Wallace Collins, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, sent this out: http://oklahomacitizen.org/2012/03/democratic-party-chairman-condems-state-gop-leadership-for-snubbing-president-during-his-recent-visit/

Republicans Snub President Obama

I could not believe it when I read and heard the news about the Republican leadership of Oklahoma snubbing President Obama during his recent visit to our state! As a native Oklahoman, I am usually proud to hear comments from travelers or visitors about how friendly Oklahoma is, how we welcome strangers and make them feel right at home here. Thank you to OKC Mayor, Mick Cornett for doing his part.

That certainly was not the case when President Barack Obama visited on Wednesday and Thursday! I don’t doubt that Governor Fallin had planned her family vacation in the Caribbean, leaving Lt. Governor Lamb in charge. When he left the State, allegedly on State business, he left someone else in charge. There is protocol to cover such instances, because any state or government always has to have someone in charge to make decisions during an absence by the elected leader (governor or president). It is my understanding that the burden fell to Senate Pro Tem Brian Bingman, (R) Sapulpa. Senator Bingman had to know that he was the designated “governor” while the other two were out of state, so why did he fail to meet the President at some point in the visit? It was reported that the senator said the president did not contact his office. I say it was not the president’s duty to contact someone he is not even aware of, it is the duty and obligation of Governor Fallin, then Lt. Governor Todd Lamb to make sure that the “baton” has been passed to the appropriate “governor” in their absence. “Bingman’s boner” is inexcusable!

In addition to this obvious snub, I think the remarks attributed to Governor Fallin were completely out of line. She did not even extend a “Welcome to Oklahoma” to the visiting dignitary, President Barack Obama! She simply launched into a critique of him and his policies which turned into a very partisan political rant. It reminded me to be very proud of our recent Democratic Governor, Brad Henry. Governor Henry was just the opposite of the Republican Governor in his treatment of President George W. Bush on any of his visits to Oklahoma. Governor Henry did not criticize any of President Bush’s policies, nor did he accuse Bush of lying our country into an unnecessary war in the Middle East. He simply acted with dignity and respect toward a visiting president, even if that president was of a different party. What a shame that the Republican leaders in Oklahoma could not have acted with dignity toward President Barack Obama and been pleased enough that he cared to come to Oklahoma!

Oklahoma Democratic Party

give these little people a second thought. He came to speak to America, not these little people. What was his message? I think pretty plainly he demonstrated to the environmentalists that we do not want dirty Canadian tar sand in this country and we can pump domestic oil in Ok.

Being even minimally polite to President Obama might well lose them their offices come election day. Not that that's any excuse. Most likely these "Republican leaders in Oklahoma" feel the exact same way as the racist pigs that voted them in, and could never bring themselves to be polite to a ... (you know what I mean).

but for myself, I was very disappointed in the Democratic Governor of Kansas. While I was outside protesting Bush's visit to Manhattan, Ks, Governor Sebelius was inside saying what an honor it was to have Bush come here to lie to us in person. Of course, it might be a political death sentence in Kansas to be rude to a Republican President, but don't the people deserve to be told that the Emperor has no clothes? That his policies and his conduct are bad for the country? Certainly the Governor can tell more people than I can with my ltitle protest sign. Instead it's all "nothing to see here folks, it's a real honor to have this lying war criminal visit our state, because even though he is a lying war criminal, he's still our President."

Republicans at least act like policy really does matter.

It isnt....it simply isnt ok when something like this is done by the elected officials representing the citizens of a state to do this. This is so disrespectful and shows lack of class. Good people can disagree politically but treat one another with respect. But to snub the President and not even care to take time to be hospitable and send a representative is downright rude and revolting. Even though many (myself included) thought George W bush and Dick Cheney were the definition of revolting, show me any case of where when they were visiting they were "snubbed" and treated in such a manner? (Ok, so maybe they were afraid if they did, they would be "disappeared&quot

But seriously, when I read this I felt sick and feel this behaviour by the GOP is not okay and has gone to such a low that they have demonstrated they do not deserve to be in any positions of public office representing citizens. They seem to to have forgotten that while they carry an "R" behind them, they represent all people, including people in their districts and states that have a "D". The people in our country need to start waking up and recognizing that we need to have representative government that works for all its people, not just some.

OK is not OK....Neither is our country as long as this continues....

Did you also notice that she increased State government workers' pay this year? Cons in NM couldn't wait for her to be sworn in because she was going to lay-off 5000 state workers! She laid off about 50, but allowed them to apply for vacancies in other state jobs.

It was a "by invitation" only event. It was a political event. Why would Republican leaders and legislators force their way into a by invitation, Democrat political event. But I also heard that no Democrat legislaters attended either. I... knew that the Democrats, who love to bash Oklahoma, would have a field day with it. Since it was totally a political event (probably paid for by taxes, but that's common for incumbant Presdiential canditates), I have the feeling that it was planned as "invitation only" so that article like this could be written. I knew it was coming
