Arkansas Circuit Judge Under Investigation After Obscene Message Board Posts
A controversial online commenter who goes by the handle “geauxjudge” is an Arkansas judge who is now under investigation by ethics regulators for the judiciary.
Circuit Judge Mike Maggio admitted on Wednesday that he is the commenter and dropped out of a campaign for the state’s court of appeals, report the Associated Press and the Arkansas Times Arkansas Blog. Above the Law notes the development.
Maggio apologized for his comments on a Louisiana State University message board called Tiger Droppings. His admission comes after the Blue Hog Report blog used biographical information in geauxjudge's posts to conclude that the writer was Maggio.
One of the controversial posts apparently commented on the name of a University of Alabama football player who is black, Ha'Sean "Ha Ha" Clinton-Dix. “I do agree about names may not be predictors of future success but in reality: How many doctors do you hear named Dr. Taneesha or Ha-Ha? How many bankers do [you] hear named Brylee? So stick with something close to normal. Or come sit in criminal court any day and see the ‘common names,’ ” the post said.
Geauxjudge also talked about marriage in his posts, suggesting that women whose husbands cheat would be better off if they stayed married. “I see it every day. A woman makes [an] emotional decision to divorce because the husband stepped out. When otherwise he was a good provider, father and husband," the post says. "Then a year or two later realizes uh oh I am worse off financially, emotionally and relationship wise but hey they showed that SOB. Too many times the women get their advice from other divorced women."
