1 Billion Rising for Justice~
ONE IN THREE WOMEN ON THE PLANET WILL BE RAPED OR BEATEN IN HER LIFETIME.
THAT IS ONE BILLION WOMEN.
IN 2013, ONE BILLION WOMEN AND MEN SHOOK THE EARTH THROUGH DANCE TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS.
THIS YEAR, ON 14 FEBRUARY 2014 WE ARE CALLING ON WOMEN AND MEN EVERYWHERE TO HARNESS THEIR POWER AND IMAGINATION TO RISE FOR JUSTICE.
IMAGINE, ONE BILLION WOMEN RELEASING THEIR STORIES, DANCING AND SPEAKING OUT AT THE PLACES WHERE THEY NEED JUSTICE, WHERE THEY NEED AN END TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS.
JOIN US!
RISE. RELEASE. DANCE!
This so beautiful~
1 Billion are rising.
Our mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, everyone.
The strength of women, never underestimate us. Yes we are beautiful, beautiful creatures! And we are rising.

Women Rising, does it get any better than that? The OP inspires me.
It's time for us to take it back, to demand our rights and to stop the violence. It's past time. Yet we are rising.

(83,950 posts)It sunk when I posted it in December. No matter, I am doing it again for International Women's Day.
Women don't give up. It is time to break the chain.

(297,795 posts)For over 100 years, WomenRising has been helping women and their families. Our clients are in need - in need of jobs, safety from domestic violence, freedom from substance abuse, safe homes for children.
WomenRising meets these needs by providing supportive counseling, crisis intervention, workforce development and job placement, shelter for victims of domestic violence, outreach, advocacy, and referrals.
For families in need, we provide the ingredients for change.

(6,151 posts)the subject arises regularly but fails because they think it might sandbox newbies. While I certainly want to roll out the welcome mat, this no-follow business actually hobbles users. Nobody (much) has all the time in the world to scratch around. It's inefficient, carrying its own set of problems that might well rival sandboxing.

(83,950 posts)A thread about women sunk twice. On International Women's Day, DU is silent.
Standing and Rising against rape and violence sunk twice.
That is sad, so very sad. It speaks volumes. Silence says it all.
I cry.

(6,151 posts)Oh, wait... we're not just a minority group, remember? Mothers are actually just HOSTS!
If I were to say the half of what I feel about the GOP, the internet would burst into flames.

(32,723 posts)Old school stuff prior to cell phones and email. We're talking stuffing envelopes, handing out fliers and spending hours on the phone with representatives from State Houses trying to sway their vote.
It was an eye opener of the way they all use the exact same talking points. They modeled themselves after totalitarian regimes like the USSR and everyone goes by what the Central Committee decrees and there is no deviation. They also PANIC when you call them out for the use of talking points and deny it emphatically.

(53,076 posts)Its hard to believe, but such arguments are usually offered with a kind of arrogant checkmate tone to them, as if sexual assault is merely the inconvenient by-product of Forgetful Girl Brain and not one of the most traumatic violations a person can experience. Worse, these kind of dismissive hypotheticals place victims at the forefront of blame. When we create and perpetuate caveats like this, we confirm to victims of sexual assault something that many are already deeply troubled by. That they could have done something different. That they asked for it. That they didnt fight hard enough. That they deserved it.
