Bartcop knew his BFEE

BFEE Scorecard

Bartcop coined the term "Bush Family Evil Empire" to denote the 60-year pre-eminence of one family in the formation of the political philosophy in the United States, that of the War Party. The first to do so to my knowledge on the World Wide Web, Bartcop chronicled their ascension to the top of the national security state by hook and by crook. At least three generations have held high national office, while also making big money off war and looting the public Treasury. The last president of the United States, a man who wasn't elected fair and square by any stretch of the imagination, actually said: "Money trumps peace" at a press conference. For some reason, not a single "journalist" had the guts to ask him what he meant by that.

Bartcop did. And We and Democracy are better for it.

How False Narrative Works

by Sam, Nat and Robert Parry
consortiumnews.com

Excerpt:

When released on May 25, 1999 - shortly after the Clinton impeachment battle had ended - the Cox report was greeted by conservative groups and the national news media as another indictment of the Clinton administration.

By then, the Washington press corps had long been addicted to "Clinton scandals" and viewed almost any allegation through that prism, regardless of the details.

The Cox report gave weight in the public's mind to the suspicion that there was something far more sinister behind earlier allegations that a Chinese government front had funneled $30,000 in illegal "soft money" donations to the Democrats in 1996.

Cox pulled off his sleight of hand with barely anyone spotting the trick card up his sleeve. The key ruse was to leave out dates of alleged Chinese spying in the 1980s and thus obscure the fact that the floodgates of U.S. nuclear secrets to China - including how to build the miniaturized W-88 nuclear warhead - had opened wide during the Reagan-Bush era.

While leaving out those Republican time elements, Cox shoved references to the alleged lapses into the presidencies of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

Thank you for the heads-up, questionseverything. Your post contains most important information.

It also reminded me of how some things have not changed as hoped:

Why Were Government Propaganda Experts Working On News At CNN?

March 27, 2000

Reports in the Dutch newspaper Trouw (2/21/00, 2/25/00) and France's Intelligence Newsletter (2/17/00) have revealed that several officers from the US Army's 4th Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Group at Ft. Bragg worked in the news division at CNN's Atlanta headquarters last year, starting in the final days of the Kosovo War.

In the U.S. media, so far only Alexander Cockburn, columnist for The Nation and co-editor of the newsletter CounterPunch, has picked up on the story. Cockburn's column on the subject is available at http://www.counterpunch.org .

The story is disturbing. In the 1980s, officers from the 4th Army PSYOPS group staffed the National Security Council's Office of Public Diplomacy (OPD), a shadowy government propaganda agency that planted stories in the U.S. media supporting the Reagan Administration's Central America policies.

A senior US official described OPD as a "vast psychological warfare operation of the kind the military conducts to influence a population in enemy territory." (Miami Herald, 7/19/87) An investigation by the congressional General Accounting Office found that OPD had engaged in "prohibited, covert propaganda activities," and the office was soon shut down as a result of the Iran-Contra investigations. But the 4th PSYOPS group still operates.

Bush's Document Gap

nywhoretimes.com

Excerpt:

The dismissal of eight United States attorneys has elicited a long and ever-growing list of theories by Democrats
about ulterior motives and suspicious coincidences. Now there is a new one: the document gap. Democrats urged
reporters to press the crooked Bush administration to explain why in the thousands of pages of e-mail messages
and documents turned over to investigators, there is almost nothing from Nov. 16 to Dec. 7, the day seven of
the firings occurred. In contrast, there are hundreds of pages from the weeks after the dismissals. One of the last
e-mail messages before this period was sent by D. Kyle Sampson, then chief of staff to Tortureboy Gonzales,
to Bush's Maid Harriet, and includes a request that the White House approve the plan. "We'll stand by for
a green light from you," said the Nov. 15 e-mail message."

BartCop

WINGS OF JUSTICE AWARD WINNER

He was blogging against the right-wing deadheads before there were blogs. Yes, in 1996, the man called BartCop led the charge for democracy by beginning his own site, a combination of rant, humor, and idiosyncrasies (such as his fondness for poker).

No, BartCop is obviously not his real name. He has a day job he needs to keep in the Midwest, so he has posted under a pseudonym for 11 years now at BartCop.com.

BartCop, who we've met, refuses to be branded or fashionable. He just purveys his own brand of outrage, entertainment, and political irony. He started so long ago that his slogan is "a modem, a smart mouth and the truth." A modem?

Nothing will change BartCop. When the Internet was a vast wasteland of right-wing shills, Bart was out there pretty much alone, never pulling a punch.

No one will ever accuse Bart of being politically correct (he has a section called BartCop "hotties&quot , but you got to love him for coming out swinging against the GOP jihad while the rest of us were just cursing at our television sets.

BartCop, for your perseverance and maintaining your own character in an age of branded ideas, you truly merit this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award.

One important thing I learned on DU since Duquesne that I've never seen any of my critics on DU address is that ever since Dulles hired NAZIs and contracted the Mafia for his secret agenda, there's been corruption within the government of the United States.

When Jim Garrison pointed out its relevancy to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, President Lyndon B Johnson said he agreed that there was a conspiracy and CIA had something to do with it (note last paragraph):

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=57085&relPageId=112

From what I read on his site, Bartcop, too, would think this information should be on the front page and leading the newscasts every day until the surviving traitors, warmongers and banksters who've benefited were imprisoned. Here's a link to his resource page, from June, 2001:

(Internet Archive as original is gone) However, those interested in Justice for JFK are told to "Move on" and it's business as usual; meaning the rich get richer, our rights continue to vanish, and democracy falls victim to wars without end.

In my opinion, the biggest cowards are those who go along with that in silence, hoping they will survive another day as the servants of traitors. Bartcop -- and I think you, Sarah Ibarruri, and me and the majority on DU -- won't until justice returns.

Courage our Corporate Media never had. So people like Bartcop were like finding gold when you thought you were the only one who sensed the evil.

Even ordinary people who were just commenting on the Bush/Cheney criminals were met with death threats and accusations of being traitors or just plain 'haters'. Liberals were under assault, and many were afraid to say anything. So I can imagine what kind of attacks he was receiving.

Sadly liberals are again under assault, this time not just from the right, but people like Bartcop taught ME not to be afraid of speaking out. And I thank him for that. I will never be bullied into silence about what is destroying this country. He was an inspiration to all of us.

He will be missed. But his spirit will live on. The Internet was like the wild west back then and there were very few voices to counter the propaganda, much of it aimed at Liberals. He was one of the few.

Thanks for posting this, Octafish.

So Bush Did Steal the White House

By Robert Parry
ConsortiumNews (via Bartcop), November 22, 2001

George W. Bush now appears to have claimed the most powerful office in the world by blocking a court-ordered recount of votes in Florida that likely would have elected Al Gore to be president of the United States.

A document, revealed by Newsweek, indicates that the Florida recount that was stopped last year by five Republicans on the U.S. Supreme Court would have taken into account so-called “overvotes” that heavily favored Gore.

If those “overvotes” were counted, as now it appears they would have been, Gore would have carried Florida regardless of what standard of chad – dimpled, hanging, punched-through – was used in counting the so-called “undervotes,” according to an examination of those ballots by a group of leading news organizations.

In other words, Bush lost not only the national popular vote by more than a half million ballots, but he would have lost the key state of Florida and thus the presidency, if Florida’s authorities had been allowed to count the votes that met the state’s legal requirement of demonstrating the clear intent of the voter.

The Newsweek disclosure – a memo that the presiding judge in the state recount sent to a county canvassing board – shows that the judge was instructing the county boards to collect “overvotes” that had been rejected for indicating two choices for president when, in reality, the voters had made clear their one choice.

“If you would segregate ‘overvotes’ as you describe and indicate in your final report how many where you determined the clear intent of the voter,” wrote Judge Terry Lewis, who had been named by the Florida Supreme Court to oversee the statewide recount, “I will rule on the issue for all counties.”

Lewis’s memo to the chairman of the Charlotte County canvassing board was written on Dec. 9, 2000, just hours before Bush succeeded in getting five conservative justices on the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the Florida recount.

Lewis has said in more recent interviews that he might well have expanded the recount to include those “overvotes.” Indeed, it would be hard to imagine that he wouldn’t count those legitimate votes once they were recovered by the counties and were submitted to Lewis.

The “overvotes” in which voters marked the name of their choice and also wrote in his name would be even more clearly legal votes than the so-called “undervotes” which were kicked out for failing to register a choice that could be read by voting machines.

Misguided Articles

This new information indicating that the wrong presidential candidate moved into the White House also makes a mockery of the Nov. 12 front-page stories of the New York Times, the Washington Post and other leading news outlets, which stated that Bush would have won regardless of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling.

Those stories were based on the hypothetical results if the state-ordered recount had looked only at “undervotes.” The news organizations assumed, incorrectly it now appears, that the “overvotes” would have been excluded from such a tally, leaving Bush with a tiny lead.

In going with the “Bush Wins” headlines, the news organizations downplayed their more dramatic finding that Gore would have won if a full statewide recount had been conducted in accordance with state law. Using the clear-intent-of-the-voter standard, Gore beat Bush by margins ranging from 60 to 171 votes, depending on what standard was used in judging the “undervotes.”

Beyond the big newspapers’ false assumptions about the state recount, the news stories showed a pro-Bush bias in their choice of language and the overall slant of the articles.

The New York Times, for instance, used the word “would” and even declarative statements when referring to Bush prevailing in hypothetical partial recounts. By contrast, the word “might” was used when mentioning that Gore topped Bush if all ballots were considered.

“A comprehensive review of the uncounted Florida ballots,” the Times wrote, “reveal that George W. Bush would have won even if the United States Supreme Court had allowed the statewide manual recount of the votes that the Florida Supreme Court had ordered to go forward. Contrary to what many partisans of former Vice President Al Gore have charged, the United State Supreme Court did not award an election to Mr. Bush that otherwise would have been won by Mr. Gore.”

Two paragraphs later, the Times noted that the examination of all rejected ballots “found that Mr. Gore might have won if the courts had ordered a full statewide recount. … The findings indicate that Mr. Gore might have eked out a victory if he had pursued in court a course like the one he publicly advocated when he called on the state to ‘count all the votes.’”

Left out of that formulation, which suggests that Gore was a hypocrite, is the fact that Bush rejected Gore’s early proposal for a full statewide recount. Bush also waged a relentless campaign of obstruction that left no time for the state courts to address the equal-protection-under-the-law concerns raised by the U.S. Supreme Court in its final ruling on Dec. 12, 2000.

Note also how the Times denigrates as misguided Gore “partisans” those American citizens who concluded, apparently correctly, that the U.S. Supreme Court awarded the election to Bush.

The headlines, too, favored Bush. The Times’ front-page headline on Nov. 12 read, “Study of Disputed Florida Ballots Finds Justices Did Not Cast the Deciding Vote.” The Washington Post’s headline read, “Florida Recounts Would Have Favored Bush.”

Spreading Confusion

The pro-Bush themes in the headlines and stories were repeated over and over by television and other newspapers, creating a widespread belief among casual news consumers that Bush had prevailed in the full statewide recount, rather than only in truncated recounts based on dubious hypotheses.

Now, Judge Lewis’s memo undercuts both the tone and the content of those news reports. It is certainly not clear anymore that the state-ordered recount would have favored Bush. It also appears likely that the interference by the U.S. Supreme Court was decisive. Based on the new evidence, the major newspapers look to be wrong on both these high-profile points.

Beyond Gore’s narrow victory from the recoverable ballots, the news organizations concluded – but played down – that Gore lost thousands of unrecoverable ballots because of flawed ballot designs in several Democratic strongholds. Gore lost other votes because Gov. Jeb Bush’s administration disqualified hundreds of predominantly black voters who were falsely labeled felons.

The New York Times also reported that Bush achieved a net gain of about 290 votes by getting illegally cast absentee votes counted in Republican counties while enforcing the rules strictly in Democratic counties. Though the new recount tallies did not include any adjustments for these irregularities, the news organizations estimated that Gore lost tens of thousands of votes from these disparities, compared to Bush’s official victory margin of 537 votes.

For months, the leading news organizations have been bending over backwards to protect Bush’s fragile legitimacy, possibly out of concern for the nation’s image in a time of crisis. Yet, whatever the motivation for trying to make Bush look good, the evidence is now overwhelming that Bush strong-armed his way, illegitimately, to the presidency.

In the days immediately after the election, Bush obstructed a full-and-fair recount in Florida, even dispatching hooligans from outside the state to intimidate vote counters. When Gore pressed for recounts in the courts, Bush sent in lawyers to prevent the tallies. Then, after losing before the Florida Supreme Court and the federal appeals court, Bush ultimately got a friendly hearing from five political allies on the U.S. Supreme Court.

If Bush truly respected the precepts of democracy and what those principles mean to the world, he could have joined Gore in demanding as full and fair a Florida recount as possible. He could have accepted the results, win or lose.

Instead Bush opted for the opposite course, deciding that his getting the White House was more important than the voters having their judgment accepted, both nationally and in Florida. By refusing to hold Bush accountable for his key role in thwarting the voters’ will, the major news organizations are not doing the cause of democracy any service.

It turns out that the thousands of demonstrators who protested Bush’s Inauguration were closer to the truth when they shouted at his motorcade, “Hail to the Thief!”

42. The ''Label'' BFEE...
Thu Mar 13, 2014, 05:08 PM
Mar 2014
Sen. Richard Nixon stands still and smiles as Prescott Bush adjusts his hat.

Regarding the BFEE, DUer yowzayowzayowza once asked:

As this phenomenon is MUCH bigger then a hand full of people, doesn't referring to it as the BFEE really diminish and subvert an understanding of the scope of the problem?

The "label" BFEE...

... is just the call-sign, a mnemonic device. It is meant to act as the peg upon which all the many memories, acts of cruelty and criminality that have been caused by these traitors over the past 42 years can be called to mind.

Think about the one thing: the name, and the attributes and characteristics of the noun follow and are called to mind. One of those is the extent of the problem.

I try never to gloss over the criminality, the treason and the genocide perpetrated by what I label the "Bush Family Evil Empire." That moniker, BTW, I discovered at Bartcop. I wish I had it 42 years ago.

The Bush men --, and their Republican and Democratic counterparts in America and their associates around the world -- are but mere stooges and sub-stooges for ther masters, what can only be imagined as ruling global economic elite, capable of buying governments and nations.

So, yes, yowzayowazyowza: The criminality, the treason, the genocide perpetrated by this class of criminal can not be diminished. It must be recognized, however. Giving it a name makes it possible to remember later. For the indictments.

Were we to go after the BFEE for real with a full-court prosecutorial press, it's doubtful the current prison system would have the capacity for all the creeps they'd have to lock up. The Congress alone has several hundred, and the courts and the Pentagon and the rest of the madministration. There are a LOT of crooks. Their number is no excuse not to go after them.

Original DU thread:

Know Your BFEE: Poppy’s CIA Made Saddam Into the Butcher of Baghdad.

And that's why I use the term "BFEE."

Information Operations (USAF Air University)-Remember when I used to post a lot from Air University? You live and learn, heh?

Tricky Dick and Prescott couldn't keep the truth about the BFEE under their white hats forever. The Bath thread was a demonstration of what the Internet can be-great memories that come in handy today Sir.

"No man, no problem," is something else they say.

Borrowed from Marshall Josef Stalin: "When there's no person, there's no problem."

From the trusting, if addled, Eisenhower and Empire's henchmen the Brothers Dulles and their Doolittle Report we devolved to Nixon to Bush/Reagan, Papa Doc Bush solo, Baby Doc Bush 1 and 2 to Cheney of the Dark Side, the Government of the United States America became like them to fight them, crushing the testicles of enemies' children, if the president deems necessary, to make a buck.

And, so, the abyss stares at us.

Anytime we lose someone, especially so when we lose a friend and brother.

One part of his legacy, from CrooksandLiars:

This is the end of an era. Bartcop, one of the original liberal bloggers, died this morning of flu, pneumonia and leukemia. He inspired many of us, and left a legacy of hard hitting yet funny as hell attacks on Republicans. I'm still stunned by the news, but the one thing that sticks out is, he was the first (and maybe the best) blogger for running Photoshop memes.

A professor of criminal justice...

The Bush Family: A Continuing Criminal Enterprise?

Gary W. Potter, PhD.
Professor, Criminal Justice
Eastern Kentucky University

The S&Ls, the Mob and the Bushs

During the 1980's hundred of Savings and Loan Banks failed. Those bank failures cost U.S. taxpayers over $500 billion to cover federally insured losses, and much more to investigate the bank failures (Pizzo, Fricker, and Muolo, 1989; Brewton, 1992; Johnston, 1990). More than 75% of the Savings and Loan insolvencies where directly linked to serious and often criminal misconduct by senior financial insiders (Pizzo, Fricker and Muolo, 1989: 305). In fact, less than 10 percent of bank failures are related to economic conditions, the rest are caused by mismanagement or criminal conduct (Pizzo, Fricker and Muolo, 1989: 305).

A good example of the Savings and Loan failures can be found in the activities of Mario Renda, a Savings and Loan insider who often worked in close collaboration with organized crime (Pizzo, Fricker and Muolo, 1989: 123-126;302). Renda served as a middle man in arranging about $5 billion a year in deposits into 130 Savings and Loans, all of which failed (Kwitny, 1992: 27). Many of these deposits were made contingent on an agreement that the Savings and Loan involved would lend money to borrowers recommended by Renda, many of whom were organized crime figures or people entirely unknown to the banking institution involved (Kwitny, 1992: 27).

SNIP...

Prescott Bush: The Yakuza’s Frontman

Finally, and perhaps most seriously, the Bush family pioneered the practice which has now become commonplace of collaboration between corporate and organized criminals. Prescott Bush, uncle of the current President and brother of the former President, played a key role in helping the Japanese Yakuza extend their financial and real estate holdings to the United States. In 1989, Prescott Bush made arrangements for a front company for Japanese organized crime groups to buy into two U.S. corporations and to make a sizeable real investment in the U.S. (Helm, 1991a: 1; Isikoff, 1992: A1). West Tsusho, a Japanese corporation, was identified by Japanese police officials as a front company for one of that country’s largest organized crime syndicates. Prescott Bush was paid a fee of $500,000 for his help in negotiating West Tsusho’s purchase of controlling interest in Assets Management, a U.S. corporation (Helm, 1991a: 1; Isikoff, 1992: A1). Bush also assisted the Japanese mob in investing in Quantam Access, a U.S. software company, which was ultimately taken over by the Japanese (Helm, 1991b: 10; Isikoff, 1992: A1). Both companies ultimately went into bankruptcy (Isikoff, 1992: A1; Moses, 1992).

George Bush Sr.: Shutting Down the Organize Crime Strike Forces

Despite assessments from senior law enforcement officers and experts on organized crime that efforts to control organized crime would be crippled, in December 1989, the administration of George Bush, Sr. abolished all 14 regional organized crime strike forces (McAlister, 1989: A 21; Struck out, 1990). The organized crime strike had been created as independent entities so they would not be subject to political influences or bureaucratic wrangling within federal law enforcement. In the two decades of their operation the strike forces had secured convictions of major organized crime figures in several U.S. cities (Struck out, 1990). It is at the very least curious to note that the federal strike force in Miami had been responsible for indicting Miguel Recarey, the man for whom Jeb Bush had intervened with regulators. Organized crime strike forces had similarly indicted Mario Renda, the organized crime liaison to the S& L’s, as well as several other key figures in the Savings and Loan Fiasco (Pizzo, Fricker, and Mulolo, 1989: 112, 120-123, 303, 337).

Prof. Potter and Bartcop gave the BFEE the hammer.

Thanks for hammering, Holly_Hobby! When the secret government has all our ISPs, it takes a brave person.

Guess who ties BCCI to ENRON?

Wendy Gramm, wife of former Senator Phil Gramm, who went on to bigger and more lucrative work in the pirate sector.

Thankfully, Bartcop and DU covered what Corporate McPravda would not: BCCI connects BFEE with bin Laden network.

Telling the Truth is a life well spent...

...for the Truth is what Democracy...

... and human progress need.

Bartcop stood up and opposed Bush wars when 91-percent of the nation -- including a ridiculously large number of Democrats and DUers -- stood up with George W Bush's post-911 war fever.

For that alone, the guy was Buddha's friend.
