A white supremacist sheriff candidate. It seems like an oxymoron, but Shaun Winkler is the real deal.
The 33-year-old is running for sheriff in Bonner County, Idaho, despite his affiliation with the Aryan Nation and the Church of Jesus Christ-Christian. He calls himself a concerned citizen, and believes law enforcement isnt doing enough to combat drugs and sex offenders.
He also claims he wont discriminate on the job.
Whether or not voters will believe Shaun Winkler remains to be seen, but some question whether he should even be able to run for office. Hes an admitted white supremacist running for a law enforcement position. Thats got to be illegal, right?

(75,480 posts)It's easy to do cause law enforcement is spread out so thin. I had a lady sheriff friend whose beat was a hundred miles she had to cover on her shift. I was a camp ground host at the time and she told me that if I had problems to try to handle it the best I could until she could get there because if she wasn't close by when I called it would take her up to an hour to get there.

(39,961 posts)I know about the "Meth Lab" problem in them there backwoods. Meth is a scourge on society in my opinion. I've seen two different reports of people arrested for making it in WAL-MART. How in the grips of addiction do you have to be to realize that mixing it IN THE STORE is probably not a good idea.
It boggles my mind.
Still, I don't think a racist homophobic warrior for Christ is the answer to the problem LOL!

(75,480 posts)I used to live in Bonner County. I hope he doesn't get a vote since that Aryan church affiliation is mostly anti-government. Much of the crime in the area (burglaries and thefts) can be traced to them since they believe the law doesn't apply to them. Funny that they would suddenly want to start exercising their Democratic rights under a government they hate and fear. A bumper sticker that the Aryans used, and frankly I used as a signature here at DU for a while when Bush got sworn into office, was "I LOVE MY COUNTRY, BUT I FEAR MY GOVERNMENT". However, the county is 99% white so there isn't much race to discriminate against. He probably will be able to keep that promise 99% of the time. However, targeting the few Mexicans there who do agricultural work, shouldn't be hard because they probably wouldn't be noticed.
I hope my former neighbors don't vote for him. However, they are prone to believing any lie the politicians tell them, so I just hope he's a big enough of an idiot to stick his foot in his mouth enough times to finish him. btw the Aryans are Taliban-like in their treatment of women, so I guess the sex offenders he wants to target could be women using birth control.
