I was surprised recently when I talked to someone who has is nationally known in the state where I live. And this person has even been high up in Washington. I met them for the first time at a meeting. I am being deliberately obscure for obvious reasons. We were talking some local politics.
He made a comment about how punitive the GOP is and once you are in at a high level you never really get out even when you get out. He was telling me about a particular individual who was high up in the Bush administration in an under secretary role in one of the largest federal departments . This individual really ticked Bush or one of his aides off big time. That individual has not found any kind of employment since he left.
The GOP operates like a gang and if you do not march in exact time you are in trouble big time. You may never work again even if you are in a lower level. The reason that I believe that this is true comes from a person I know who was a precinct captain and even a strong Christian. He is now a Democrat. We were talking one day and he was telling me the horrors of even being a precinct captain in the GOP organization. It was like being in the Gestapo. You follow orders. NO questions. NO opinion of your own. If you even ask it is the political whip. He was so mad he resigned because of what he was ORDERED to do. This person was a very strong Republican at one time.
They rule even their little soldiers with an IRON fist and they make sure that you know what the consequences will be if you deviate even one iota.
I was also talking to someone who ran for county clerk who was telling me of the dangers of the mail in ballot. We have a local very powerful fundy church in my area who runs candidates for something every cycle. There is pretty strong evidence that when there are mail in ballot elections that this church holds voting conclaves where they make sure everyone votes the same way. I was skeptical, but seeing how this church operates politically I would not be surprised. They are very extreme.
BTW. Sorry I cannot give more detail. The person I was talking to is quite well known nationally. And the lawyer he was telling me about was very well known to. I was really surprised by his comment about how vicious the GOP is to people to fail them. The way he framed the comment reminded me of a movie where an executive of a company had some underlings jump out of a skyscraper because they had failed him.
This person is one of the highest level politicians that I have ever met in 68 years of life that I have had a chance to have a one on one conversation.

The charges of corruption the author levels at the Bush family are extraordinary and sensational--why, our reviewer wonders, would anyone legitimize them by publishing this book? -- The Los Angeles Times
What the GOP does to its hordes, they do to honest journos. Remember Gary Webb? LA Times and the rest of Corporate McPravda helped bury him, too.

(36 posts)The GOP openly purged it ranks to the maximum extent possible of moderates starting in the late 80s, hence moderate republicans started putting a D after their name and ran for office, resulting in the current Republican Lite Leaning Democratic Party we have today.
