Use the power of the voter file and the latest in Democratic campaign analytics to choose a partisan name for your baby, determine what political party views you should really have, or just waste time on the Internet. Look up your own name or a less common name like Barack (a few people even have Obama as their first name). Enjoy!

(19,841 posts)that unless you have a really unusual name, for the most part the results split somewhat down the middle. Church attendance seems the most significant fluctuation.

(21,020 posts)I don't see what's so "worthless and idiotic" about statistics which say there are X number of registered voters with (your name), making it the Xth most common name, and X% of them identify with the Democratic party.

(8,830 posts)Apparently 121 registered voters - according to the database.
Mostly Dem, etc . . . problem is, I am a registered unaffiliated voter (since I was eligible to vote, almost 40 years). I know I exist and I know my name is unusual enough that the total they came up with is about right.
If they were actually using voter information, the reports would be different. This is a silly game - not a valid (if there is any validity to names influencing political persuasion) metric.

(21,020 posts)the idea of a person's name being predictive is probably just a teaser, since the site gives actual numbers of people with any given name being registered Democrats, etc.

Looked up siblings names, interestingly female names Dem and male names R. I guess the theory is your parents pick a liberal or conservative name, but over time the parents may get more conservative.

enlightenment
(8,830 posts)registered voters in the OP's link, not just names at birth, so there is going to be some differences. According to the Census, about 72% of adults 18 and older are registered to vote.
The link indicates that it is looking at public voting records, so it is only looking at that 72% of the population, not the population as a whole.
