[Indianapolis Public Schools] IPS bans bus driver involved in fight with student
Indianapolis Public Schools officials said Wednesday they will not let a school bus driver involved in a fight with a student work in the district again.
On Monday around 3 p.m., a brawl erupted between a bus driver and a 14-year-old girl, ending with the driver striking the student with a broom handle, according to police.
The driver has been suspended by her employer, Durham School Services, pending an investigation, according to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. IPS wont comment on whether disciplinary action was taken against the student.
Police said the girl who was involved in the fight told investigators the bus driver, 47, was yelling at another student when she stood up behind the driver and called her a derogatory name. The driver then pulled over the bus, which had been coming from Marshall High School, and tried to push the girl back into her seat.
