Arizona Tea Party Group Defends SB 1062: 'The First Amendment Protects Only The Practice Of The Christian Faith'
Submitted by Brian Tashman on Wednesday, 2/26/2014 12:55 pm
An Arizona-based Tea Party group is rallying around the states right-to-discriminate legislation, SB 1062, by claiming that the First Amendment protects only the practice of the Christian faith. The Williams Tea Party of Coconino County defended the anti-gay bill on its website, alleging that the First Amendment protects only the practice of the Christian faith and that the First Amendment protects the right of those of the Christian faith to not serve those who are clearly abhorrent to that faith.

(15,383 posts)But the bill needs to be amended. If you want to be a Christian that discriminates, you can do it, but you must voluntarily put an official sign in the window/on the door of your business that clearly states so. If you don't, you have to serve everyone (punishable by ever-increasing fines if you discriminate with no sign). That way, LGBT, their friends, family, supporters, and people who don't believe in discrimination will politely not buy your goods or services because while a gay couple trying to get a wedding cake at a discriminating baker would be a no-brainer for the business owners, a single gay or lesbian person could walk in and buy a cupcake, and we wouldn't want that to happen. You can rest easy knowing that you'll only do business with other people who think the same as you do. Yes, it will probably be a drastically smaller segment of society, and your pocketbook will suffer, but you'll have shown God and the rest of us whose side you're on.

Because, believe me, you're not a True® Believer unless you believe what I believe. And I've got a Constitution to prove it.

(50,559 posts)The First Amendment does not contain the name of any religion, but the Second starts out "A well-regulated militia." The only militia so meeting that description is the National Guard.
So...if you want to claim the First only applies to the specific brand of Christian you are, it's only fair everyone not currently in the National Guard should turn in his or her guns.
