Hero cat 'Meatball' saves residents from blaze
A terrified French woman and her neighbours were grateful to be alive after her cat - and not the smoke alarm - woke the lady in the middle of the night to alert her to a blaze burning in the attic of their block. But in the aftermath the hero kitty could not be found.
When a blaze broke out in the attic of a farmhouse that had been converted into several apartments in a tiny village in south-eastern France the consequences could have been tragic for the occupants.
But thankfully a cats keen senses saved the day as well as the lives of seven adults and three children who lived in the farmhouse.
Alexandra Marlin was awoken from a deep sleep in the early hours of Sunday morning in La Bégude-de-Mazenc by the sound of her cat Meatball (boulette) scratching on the floor of the attic. The woman, half asleep, rolled from bed and went to see what the kitty was up to.

(34,582 posts)We may joke about cats, but they can be quite protective. My wife couldn't stand cats but anytime she was sick the cat would lay right next to her and purr. It was like she (the cat) was trying to give my wife healing energy.

I decide the latter.
Define "healing energy".

(115,732 posts)until a few years ago when I injured my knee, and at night one of my cats would lie right next to it and purr. This went on for weeks. He had never done that before, and after the injury healed he stopped doing it. So go figure.

(3,995 posts)I once had surgery and I recovered at home by myself. My cat stayed by my side and purred for three days. Every time I woke up, he would put his paw on me and give me a kitty kiss. He had the best bedside manner.
