LaRouche supporter who compares Obama to Hitler leads Democratic field in Texas U.S. Senate primary

Embarrassments like this happen when nationals Dems write off a race and refuse to field even a slightly competitive candidate (See also: Tennessee in 2012):

In what has to be a blow for Democratic partisans who were convinced that state Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) can single-handedly turn the Lone Star State blue in November, the Texas Democratic Party appears to be on the verge of tarnishing its reputation. According to a poll conducted by the University of Texas and the Texas Tribune, the frontrunner to face likely incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in November is Kesha Rogers. She is also somewhat… unhinged.

Originally flagged by HotAir’s Guy Benson, the poll shows Rogers leading her nearest opponent in the race to face Cornyn, Dallas area dentist David Alameel, by 8 points – outside the poll’s 6.04 percent margin of error.

But Democrats might be careful what they wish for…

“As an acolyte of perennial presidential fringe candidate Lyndon LaRouche, she believes the U.S. economy is secretly controlled by a cabal of London financial institutions,” wrote Dallas Morning News reporter Nick Swartsell in December. “She’s paraded around Houston with a giant picture of Obama sporting a Hitler mustache and compared the Affordable Care Act to 1930s-era Nazi eugenics policies.”

When I checked the Texas Tribune site it did not provided any other demographic information about the respondents and since it was an online poll, the results could easily be skewed.

I'm also watching Tweety who pointed out the 11 point lead that kitty-cat has over Wendy Davis. He failed to mention that the poll was conducted prior to the Nugent controversies.

There is a decent amount of attention to the poll, which was also published in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. In the Tribune’s copy, a reader has to get to the last paragraph of a long story to discover the most relevant fact about the Trib’s poll: It was conducted between Feb. 7 – 17. In the governor’s race, at least, the findings are irrelevant. Ted Nugent had not yet shat upon the aspirations of Greg Abbott. (For future reference when writing about this relationship, I am thinking of a conflation: Ted Abbott.)

Abbott had barely called South Texas a Third World before the polling began and no one was surveyed after Nugent had traveled the state insulting a sitting president with a Nazi characterization, and having his background referred to by reporters digging up stories about his draft evasion tactics and his sexual proclivities. Although it is only an unfortunate matter of timing, it’s hard to believe the Tribune’s poll has real relevance given a potentially significant impact on sentiments prompted by the tactical failings of the Abbott campaign exhibited by the Nugent invite.

Aw, facepalm. It's moments like this that really do make me wonder just how competent the Texas Democratic Party really is. In fact, I'd vote for Alameel over Rogers any day and I barely know anything about the guy!

Just please, please, don't give us the LaRouchie. Please.....
