Last edited Tue Feb 25, 2014, 08:01 PM - Edit history (3)
Neither Safari not google chrome allow me to access occupywallst.org
Does anyone else have this prob. Or know any history? Thanks.
It must be my ISP blocking it. I was trying to look at it from home in GA.

on Safari it says the server dropped the connection, but it's been saying that all day. I just wanted to check their site and see what it looked like now. I haven't looked at it for over a year.
on edit, my ISP is blocking it. When I used the word 'censored' I meant it as a synonym for 'blocked'. Didn't realize all the Occupy haters would come out of the woodwork to make fun of my imprecision.

(67,108 posts)happen with DU. In the right wing state where I used to live it started coming up an invalid website something like that. You might want to trying switching to OpenDNS or the Google DNS servers if you think that might be the same case for you.

(752 posts)I appreciate it.

(67,108 posts)for an ISP to block traffic. I was amazed when it happened to me in a red red red state. Some people prefer to use OpenDNS or the Google ISP servers instead of their ISP's. I've had no problems with my new ISP in a different state, so I just let it default to them.
Here's some more info.:

Don't come on here to make fun of people. I get enough of that in GA. Don't want to be bullied by dxcks who don't know me for asking a simple question.

(11,138 posts)But being so derisive about it in a thread where people do is kind of a classless thing to do.

(11,138 posts)Perhaps the poster was trying from work, or on a university network, on any number of other possibilities. Any of which may well block access to a site like Occupy.
No, I think you just like being derisive wherever possible. It's a character thing.
treestar
(82,383 posts)that the government was doing it. If you are at a network that is limited from inside, you should know that. The university is not "censoring" if they are blocking it - they just don't consider it educational or whatever, or want those computers just used for school work. I think you are digging here to defend a very dumb post.

(37,549 posts)"appeals" generally failed. With the exception of one or two truly bizarre jury verdicts, the vast majority of jury threads in Meta were feedback to the aggrieved that yes, they got the Hide deservedly, and were not being "censored."
I recall my alert on HopeHoops, and what that led to....

I've never understood the whining over a hidden post. We can still see it quite often in the metahofwarroom group. No one can go in there to tell them that it was deserved, though. So, the echo chamber tells them that they're all persecuted victims of a corrupt and unfair system.

It's obviously the fault of our education system. People must have been taught that there are only male rats.

Google's Pagespeed is a website caching/content delivery network service. When one sets up Pagespeed for their website, Google caches the content of the website and then serves it from geographically-redundant data centers around the world. Based on the error returned by the Pagespeed, it seems that the Occupy folks have a configuration error.
Due to this, it seems that the reason http://occupywallst.org works while http://www.occupywallst.org does not is a configuration error, not purposely blocking.

MADem
(135,425 posts)Can't see why they'd bother, though. The latest "news" is a letter from someone that sounds like it's astroturf, like it was written by someone who is running the website.
There's nothing terribly subversive on the page at all.
Maybe the site owners have some squirrely code in their web page.
Chiquitita
(752 posts)It might be what the poster above explained, or something along those lines. Thanks. MADem. It's not a huge deal. One day recently I remembered, 'there used to by Occupy, where did those people go?' and so I looked up the site and had a problem I'd never had as a frequent internet user. To be honest I was surprised that so many people immediately derided me and laughed at me for posting my question. I've been on this site since 2004 and rarely post. You model such a friendly, tolerant way of interacting (like I remember DU being 10 years ago).
I think that memory is important -- not just what is happening at the moment. So, however the mainstream memory of that movement is defined, that's the power it will have in the future.
