Just walked into my local library here in Erie Pa. There was a voter registration table set up in the lobby, and a man walked up to me from the table and said "Are you a republican"? I answered no, then sat down at a nearby table to watch. He asked everyone coming in if they were a republican before asking them to register. I got some of it on phone video, and then called the (democrat) county executive office (Kathy Dahlkemper) and alerted them, and I also alerted the unionized library staff, who seemed concerned and are looking into it.
The guy doing the talking is apparently running against Kathey in the County Executive race. Kathy, for those who don't know, was targeted by Sarah Palin in her "crosshairs", and the local GOP went after her hammer and tongs and outspent her seven to one to one with citizens united money to get Mike Kelly (R) in as U.S. Representative.
Isn't it illegal to selectively run a registration drive like this?
I did all I could to stop this bullshit.
P.S. - this is happening in our county library.

The best thing I can think to do is get them some adverse publicity. Protest them visibly and call the news.
thanks!

(4,734 posts)if He knows I nailed him, I don't want to come out one day here and find my car vandalized. I would not put it past our local tea/abortion whacko loonies for a minute. (Kathy received multiple death threats from the abortion whackjobs during her campaign, I believe that is who is coordinating the campaign against her as county exec.

(8,175 posts)deter you from doing the right thing. This world is too full of people who allow evil to continue because they won't stand up and face it. The chances that it will backfire on you personally are probably very slim.

(4,734 posts)Just took a chance and questioned the guy. He is collecting signatures on a petition to get on the ballot - not illegal. But, there is a voter registration table behind him, and people who do not respond that they are repubs are not being referred to the table. Right on the very edge of legality. Anyway, I contacted the appropriate people who will know what if anything is illegal, and what to do.

(2,467 posts)Our library always has a voter registration table out. If the table isn't his he isn't obligated to redgistrate voters... his first priority is the signatures

(7,888 posts)You stood for your values. You are a hero/heroine in my view.
Why has there been a full court attack by some sick republican minorities scheming to suppress the vote? It's because dirty tricks are the only way to convince their flock to vote against their own interests. Someday they will become masters of the universe reaping the whirlwind.
Not happening on my watch, in my lifetime, we better get busy turning this ship around.

(4,734 posts)Just walked into library a minuteago. The voter registration tables are still up, but the teabagger candidate is not there gathering ballot petition signatures. I think they told him he can not do both at the same time. So, hopefully they are now keeping an eye on these people. I am not naming him to avoid a possible legal problem, but I sent the videos and his personal info to another D.U.er who knows what to do.
