before you post a Daily Mail story PLEASE READ THIS STORY about the DM smearing a politician

The BBC reports about the deputy leader of the UK Labour Party responding to an allegation by the Daily Mail tying her to what's essentially the British equivalent of NAMBLA:

Harriet Harman has said she "regrets" a civil liberties group she once worked for had links to pro-paedophile campaigners in the 1970s but insisted she had "nothing to apologise for".

The National Council for Civil Liberties granted "affiliate" status to the Paedophile Information Exchange.

The Daily Mail has urged the deputy Labour leader to explain this link.

But Ms Harman has accused the newspaper of "smear and innuendo" and said it "should be apologising".

From 1978 to 1982 Ms Harman was legal officer at the National Council for Civil Liberties, which was the predecessor to campaign group Liberty.

The Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE) - a group that spoke positively about adults attracted to children - was granted affiliate status with the National Council for Civil Liberties in 1975.

you see what's happening here?

the daily FAIL is doing to the UK NCCL, essentially what American right wingers have done to the US ACLU regarding the ACLU's legal defense of NAMBLA's free speech.

this is Glenn Beck style "just asking questions" YELLOW JOURNALISM.

by linking the Daily FAIL on DU you are giving CREDENCE to their brand of clickbait, character-assassinating, borderline libelous trashy brand of "journalism" and to the destruction of the modern "news media".

sure the Daily FAIL may have a political scoop once in a while or the latest cute animal video, but please. DU would lock any thread linking to the Daily Caller, The Blaze, Breitbart, whatever right wing ghetto sites out there even if the link is to a cat video. just google "dailymail.co.uk" in DU and you'll see how many Daily mail stories are posted here. heck remember the old days when Breitbart was primarily an AP mirror site? google "Breitbart.com/news" on DU and see.

so please think again before posting a juicy story from DailyMail.co.uk on DU.

And for some humor here's the satirical "Daily Mail Song" & i say satirical because these covers are fake parodies of real DM covers

If you can find a reliable source for the same story, use that instead.

If you can't, don't assume it's true, and don't post it.

Oh, and look up the Oncological Ontology project if you want a laugh...

The Daily Mail is to the U.K. what the New York Post is to the United States, and what the Drudge Report is to the Internet: to wit, gossipy tabloid "journalism" for those who cannot digest serious news, with a flippantly wingnut editorial stance. The Daily Mail is notable among British tabloids for rejecting the standard red-top banner order to try to appear more upmarket and respectable, although it does sometimes go in for the full front-page picture or headline characteristic of the working class rags. It is also notorious for its frequent harassment of individuals, campaigns of hate directed at various minorities, and willfully deceiving and lying to its readers.
