David Gregory's so-called "mistake" reason enough to boot his ass right out of the "Meet the Press"

DAVID GREGORY:

And you talk about the humanitarian assistance. The level of suffering is huge. The fact that Assad has killed-- about a million people have died, the refugee crisis adding numbers to that, by almost another million, I mean the scale of mass suffering is huge in Syria.

SUSAN RICE:

David, I think it's more like 100,000, which is--

DAVID GREGORY
:

Excuse me, I messed up, I'm sorry.

SUSAN RICE:

--horrific. But--

DAVID GREGORY:

Yeah, 100,000 killed.

SUSAN RICE:

Not a million.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be fired, but what about this exchange is so extreme? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm interested.

Link for Definition of "Order of Magnitude: From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_magnitude :

Order of magnitude
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An order of magnitude is a scale of numbers with a fixed ratio, often rounded to the nearest ten.

The orders of magnitude are written in powers of ten. For example, the order of magnitude of 1500 is 3, since 1500 may be written as 1.5 × 103.

Differences in order of magnitude can be measured on the logarithmic scale in "decades" (i.e., factors of ten).[1] Examples of numbers of different magnitudes can be found at Orders of magnitude (numbers).

Even well informed people have blind spots when in comes to contemporary and historic events. However, the error seems jarring for a national news reporter of his status.

But this isn't remotely like his worst offense. It's like saying Madoff was a bad guy because he was a lousy tipper. Oh, about that other thing...
