(16,976 posts)We went to Oregon for the first time a couple years ago and went to Cannon Beach during our drive around the state. We wanted to see that rock that was in the movie. It was so beautiful but very crowded when we went, so we didn't stay long and look through the shops -- just walked out to that beach area there where that famous rock is.
Nice pictures!
*edited the movie from "Gremlins" to "Goonies". I forgot that it was the "Goonies" filmed there, not Gremlins.

(16,976 posts)and he even remembered Astoria where it was filmed (I don't have the best sense of direction as he reminds me all the time, lol).
I'm forgetting the name of the Falls we went to right outside of Portland. I Googled Oregon hiking trails, but we both couldn't remember it right off hand. Do you recall the Falls around that area? I'm still Googling.... We just loved it. Very crowded there, as well when we went.

(35,773 posts)There are many wonderful falls and hikes in the Columbia Gorge, but Multnomah Falls are the grandest.
If you're ever back in the area, check out Eagle Creek Trail, in the Gorge. It's one of the most stunning hikes I've done anywhere in the world.
Cheers!

(16,976 posts)rang a bell. It was just stunning. I'll make a note of the Eagle Creek Trail as I still have my Triple AAA maps and books from our driving trip because we want to go back. Thanks. It sounds like you are an avid outdoors fan and hiker. Very nice!

(12,041 posts)It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, the forest in Ecola State Park just on the edge of town may be the most beautiful forest I have ever seen and I am a lifelong hiker. I really want to go back to Oregon, it was the best vacation I ever took.

(35,321 posts)how many people on this board have been to this tiny beach
I only heard about it because it was featured on HGTV
We went to visit family in Portland and thought we would head out for a few days to check it out
I guess I am the last to discover it
The town of Cannon Beach is beautiful and the people are so cool

(12,041 posts)Oregon is such a beautiful state with a really awesome culture, amazingly good food, and jawdropping scenery. I can't wait to go back again, it may rain a lot but when that rain produces such spectacular forests it is worth getting a little bit wet.

(41,832 posts)We did that on our second visit. Took in a brewery on the way.
Then to the cherry orchards. Then the lodge on Mt Hood.

(2,273 posts)It was also in the movie Goonies so it's pretty well known.

(15,552 posts)Beautiful place. It was the last week of April and we saw quite a bit of the coast and other sites, but Cannon Beach was my favorite. Hiked to the top of Multnomah Falls, but I was about 20 years younger then

(35,773 posts)Another incredible spot is Indian Heaven Wildnerness in Southwest Washington. I love Mt. Hood, but for hiking, we head across the river, because the beauty is just as grand and there are much fewer people. (It's quite far from Seattle, and many Portlanders seem to think that crossing border is a bad thing.)
