I guess that he no longer wants to make sure that it's a safe place (for white people) to live.
Where is his sense of duty now?
Perhaps he's feeling a little guilty about gunning down an innocent child in cold blood. Who knows?
But by now, perhaps he's realized that Trayvon Martin (A name that I hope that he never forgets) was an innocent child, right?
Why hasn't he told the world about his side of the story? Surely, he still thinks that he's in the right. Or just maybe, he's fearful and embarrassed about what he's done. Either way, he should let us all know, especially the grieving parents of Trayvon Martin. They deserve as much.
What a confusing little man
Perhaps he'll find himself impelled to come to truth and justice eventually.
The world expects him to.

(2,335 posts)That does not mean I support vigilante justice or violence, even if all the facts were against the guy--something far from certain. But he did something that violated the social contract so to speak by looking for trouble. I just think he'll get taken out --either on the street or behind bars.

(2,759 posts)At the very least. And I'm glad that Florida has the death penalty. I don't think that a death sentence would be unwarranted in this case. This was a cold-blooded murder of an unarmed, innocent child, only because of the color of his skin. I have not an ounce of mercy in my heart for someone who would commit such a heinous act.

(15,242 posts)It could explain why so many are appearing to be covering up for Zimmerman and the police put up with his multiple calls. This murder could have many other accomplices.
Florida has always seemed keen on the death penalty wonder how they will stand on the murder of this child who was armed with iced tea and candy.

(2,124 posts)This is per that insane Stand Your Ground law. Apparently, all you must do is say that you had a "feeling" that you were in danger, and viola! ... Self-Defense!
Somehow, I think if this were turned around identically, and this black kid had pursued the white man through the white man's own neighborhood, the white man made an effort to evade him, the white man was unarmed, and then the black kid shot the white man to death, I somehow think this black kid would be in jail. It would be a no-brainer. And he sure as hell wouldn't be able to say, "Well, I felt that Zimmerman was a threat to me so I chased after him and shot him."

(8,462 posts)thinking about black people at the time. I hope the state decides to prosecute him, despite the "stand your ground" law. He clearly pursued Mr. Martin and gave evidence of bias on tape just before he shot. Hate crime seems pretty clear in this case.

(73,631 posts)Black males made up most, if not all of the "suspicious characters" that were the reason he felt that he had to call 911 repeatedly. Even if they were doing nothing more than walking down a rainy sidewalk, wearing a hoodie and carrying candy and iced tea.
It was mentioned upthread that he's actually part latino and that part is Cuban, indeed. Also many caucasian Cubans in Florida self-identify as white. I think that the "fucking coons" slur was quite the indicator of his concerns.
In his mind, I seriously doubt that the safety of the entire diversity of that community was first and foremost
Only a certain segment of it.

(9,992 posts)And, from what I hear, Cubans are more apt to be far-right, and self -identify as white, or whiter than other Latinos.

(13,184 posts)"Anglo" is a common term in Texas for non-Hispanic whites.
But having a name like Zimmerman certainly ups the "white" factor.

(55,445 posts)probably laying low at a relative's house...It's not like he can show his face in public and not be instantly recognized...
And he did tell his side of the story, in the statement he gave to the cops that night...But I'm 99.9% certain his "official statement" is full of bullshit and will only bury him deeper (that's why the cops haven't released it)...His father also gave the standard, attorney-written statement to the media last week, but that was before all the other details had come out.
Personally, he doesn't strike me as someone that smart, but I'm still worried he may try to blow town and hide out in the islands somewhere...So I want an arrest sooner rather than later

(14,082 posts)But I wonder if he even knows the truth. When you look at pictures of Trayvon - I don't know if those are recent pictures - you have to wonder how anyone could feel that threatened by this young kid. Especially Zimmerman who is 28 and outweighs him by 100 pounds. Zimmerman has to have been so blinded by his hate that he couldn't really see Trayvon. I doubt that he wants to picture him now.

(8,747 posts)If you want to stay out of trouble:
(1) Never talk to the police without your lawyer.
(2) Never talk to the media without your lawyer, or
(3) Never talk to the media, period.
Zimmerman, has already been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion. He has absolutely nothing to gain by talking to any media person, ever. Nor the police.
He can only be compelled to talk to the Grand Jury.
I imagine by now, he has realized he has fucked up such that it is going to cost him his freedom, and the only question, is for how long. He has nothing to gain, and much to lose by talking to anyone he doesn't have to.
Comrade Grumpy
(13,184 posts)MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)I really don't expect him to say a single word to the media. As a matter of fact, I was surprised that his father had issued that completely asinine statement in defense of his son. It wasn't any defense at all.
If he goes out in public again, I hope that he'll be in handcuffs. I quite sure that he's considering flight, if he's not already gone.
My entire point was the fact that Zimmerman was so zealous about "defending" that community from a constant "threat" of young black males that he had to make repeated calls to 911 over that period of time AND shoot down Trayvon Martin.
If he felt that he was in the right, where is his zeal now? A decent person would be wracked by shame instead. I doubt that he is ashamed. Scared, maybe, at the court of public opinion as we all know, for sure. But let's say that you and I agree that he's lacking any decency or sense of responsibility for his own actions.
Innocent blood is on his hands. I hope that the guilt of having that blood of Trayvon Martin on his hands it keeps him awake at night, no matter where he goes.
