IF YOUVE been feeling a little lonelier than usual and wondering if all the men have disappeared, the good news is, its not all in your head the bad news is, you are right. The men HAVE disappeared.
Six out of Australias eight states and territories are currently experiencing a man drought, according to McCrindle Research and there are almost 100,000 more women than men.
The man drought is a demographic reality, says Mark McCrindle, a social researcher and demographer who analysed the Australian Bureau of Statistics data on the ratio of men to women across Australias regions.
Australia has 100,000 more females than males even though there are more male babies born than females, and there are more males than females until around age 35, he said.

(14,557 posts)Australian Football League raids U.S. for unique talent source college basketball players..
The email seemed too preposterous to be taken seriously when it arrived in Mark Cisco's inbox last spring.
A man unfamiliar to the Columbia University basketball player contacted him to see if he'd be interested in pursuing a pro career in a sport he had neither played nor watched before. The message promised the Australian Football League would fly Cisco to Los Angeles and pay for his hotel room for three nights if the 6-foot-9 senior agreed to participate in a two-day tryout in Redondo Beach beginning April 14.
One of the most important positions in Australian football is the ruckman because his job is to win possession for his team after stoppages and goals scored by tipping a jump ball to a teammate in midair. Expansion to 18 franchises has made it difficult for AFL teams to find enough homegrown players with the strength, height and athleticism necessary to thrive in the role, so they've begun trying to identify American basketball players with the proper physical tools and the aptitude to learn a new sport quickly
In 2011, ex-Bethune Cookman forward Alex Starling received a two-year, $180,000 contract offer from the Sydney Swans after a tryout in Los Angeles, but he hasn't panned out as a result of a lingering stress fracture in one of his legs. In 2012, former Seattle University and DePaul forward Eric Wallace dazzled AFL executives with his chiseled 6-foot-7 frame and impressive athleticism at the inaugural league-wide U.S. combine, earning a similar two-year, $180,000 deal from North Melbourne. And last month, former North Dakota forward Patrick Mitchell received the same contract from the Sydney Swans after a strong showing at the same combine Cisco attended in April.
