Covering Up Rape For JesusBecause morality.
GREENVILLE, S.C. For decades, students at Bob Jones University who sought counseling for sexual abuse were told not to report it because turning in an abuser from a fundamentalist Christian community would damage Jesus Christ. Administrators called victims liars and sinners.
All of this happened until recently inside the confines of this insular university, according to former students and staff members who said they had high hopes that the Bob Jones brand of counseling would be exposed and reformed after the university hired a Christian consulting group in 2012 to investigate its handling of sexual assaults, many of which occurred long before the students arrived at the university.
Last week, Bob Jones dealt a blow to those hopes, acknowledging that with the investigation more than a year old and nearing completion, the university had fired the consulting group, Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment, or Grace, without warning or explanation. The dismissal has drawn intense criticism from some people with ties to Bob Jones, and prompted some victims and their allies including many who were interviewed by Grace investigators to tell their stories publicly for the first time, attracting more attention than ever to the universitys methods.
On Friday, Stephen Jones, president of the university and great-grandson of its founder, addressed students and employees, saying, We grew concerned that in the process, Grace had begun going beyond the originally outlined intentions, but he would not elaborate. He said the university had not told Grace what its concerns were and wanted to discuss them with the consultant but could do so only face to face and felt compelled to fire the firm first.

(3,596 posts)Jesus Christ would be harmed if a woman turned in a rapist?
I don't recall Jesus going around saying he would be offended if a woman turned in a rapist. I don't recall Jesus ever saying that rape was fun and should be enjoyed by all.
These fake Christians make up all kinds of excuses, always in the name of Jesus Christ, for the most bizarre and un-Christian, not to mention, inhumane and cruel, practices and beliefs.
I guess this is part of the "woman submit to your husband" meme but that doesn't fit in here. Here you have a young man who is having forcible intercourse with a woman not his wife. I thought these guys didn't believe in pre-marital sex.
So this must be the woman must submit to any male Bob Jones University student and let him have his way with her because that is what Jesus would want.
Sick, sick, sick.....

They are way worse than Liberty or some others.

(423 posts)Don't even get me started. Okay, just one story:
Friend A, on the way to the BJU cafeteria: "Well, I'm leaving."
Friend B, not on the way to the cafeteria: "On a jet plane?"
A campus snitch overheard that, and both of them found themselves in official BJU trouble.
When asked why they were glorifying rock music, both students said they had no recollection of doing anything like that.
Then the officials reminded them of the "on a jet plane" line. And they were both disciplined for glorifying rock music, and for lying about it.
This was two decades after that non-rock song was popular.

When I hear BJU's name, I really listen. They will do anything.

(423 posts)'Good Christian kids,' both of them, enough so that it was their decision, not their parents' decision, to attend BJU.
Now neither of them has any use for that sort of heavy-handed fundamentalism (or even anything approaching it). I suspect their BJU experiences had a lot to do with their transformations.

(14,040 posts)was being perpetrated by heterosexual Christians, it kinda damages their "it's always the gays" meme.
It's sad that some of these victims are so indoctrinated that they won't stand up for themselves for the fear of damaging "Christianity's reputation" when all they should be concerned with is healing.
