Former child star Shirley Temple Black died late Monday at age 85 of natural causes, it was announced Tuesday. In her adulthood, she went from a beloved child icon to national diplomatic figure, serving under four presidents. Here are 10 political facts about Temple Black.

1. Served in three ambassadorships. Her first diplomatic post was as U.S. delegate to the United Nations by President Richard Nixon in 1969, she was the ambassador to Ghana from 1974 to 1976, appointed by President Gerald Ford, and she was the ambassador to Czechoslovakia from 1989 to 1992, appointed by President George H.W. Bush.

2. First female U.S. chief of protocol at the State Department from 1976 to 1977 under Ford.

3. Worked for the Department of State as a foreign affairs officer-expert from 1981 to 1989 under President Ronald Reagan.

4. Named an honorary FSreign service officer in November 1987 by Secretary of State George Shultz under Reagan.

I think she was wonderful as an actress and then went into public service which is great. She was a Republican back when they were much more sane than they are today. I heard she was pro-choice. I did not check but believe the person who told me. The reason is because again back in those days Republicans were a bit more normal than today.
