A restaurant outside of Oklahoma City is facing criticism after its outspoken owner made a series of inflammatory comments after one of his former customers, who is disabled, complained that hed been banned from the establishment.
Matt Gard claims that the owner of Garys Chicaros restaurant, Gary James, banned him from the restaurant because of his wheelchair. James, however, says otherwise: He created an issue. You only have one time here. You create an issue, youre out forever.
Gard claims thats just a weak excuse, and that Jamess real problem with him is that hes on disability.
James doesnt deny that he thinks some people shouldnt patronize his restaurant. Well if you work, you own a business, pay your taxes, youre more than welcome here, he told KFOR. If youre on welfare, stay at home and spend my money, there. I dont deal with these people walking down the street with no jobs on welfare.
Gard also claims that James has routinely turned away customers for decades. He doesnt like certain people of race, color, ethnicity, Gard said of James.
James told KFOR that hes owned Garys Chicaros for 44 years, so he think[s] I can spot a freak or a f*ggot.
The restaurants official t-shirt makes it clear that a f*ggot isnt welcome in Jamess establishment. It features that word, the N-word, and threatens violence against Muslims, Democrats, and members of many minority groups.
James says he is proud to wear the shirt: I really dont want gays around. Any man that would compromise his own body would compromise anything.
Watch the KFOR report on the incident below.

(14,449 posts)He has been doing this for 44 years and we are only hearing this now. I guess he is ready to retire and wanted to let it be known what kind of jerk he has been and continues to be. I wonder if he feels the same way about a Veteran in a wheelchair. He probably would be that hypocritical. "Oh you were in war and ended up this way? Welcome!" or "Oh you were born and have to be in a wheelchair? Leave!" Yieks this guy is just awful.

(3,918 posts)Beware Gary's "Cornhole special". I thought maybe it was the inbred mouth breather's way of saying "Whole Corn". I mean, who wouldn't want some whole corn? Yum, yum! Well, it had less to do with corn and more to do with my bunghole. And Tobasco sauce on his incredibly small wiener. He said it's the way his daddy taught him. Then he offered me a musical instrument when he finished. Folks, let me tell you that a "rusty trombone" is NOT a poorly maintained musical instrument. At all. At the end of the day, I crapped on a plate and it was better than anything you might get at Gary's Cornhole Emporium.

(27,247 posts)One thing is the emergence of influential TV preachers (for example, Tulsa's Billy James Hargis going on and on every Sunday about how Richard Nixon was the superior "moral" choice over George McGovern). And of course, there's also Oral Roberts, who started his own university in Tulsa back in 1963 and appeared to be quite influential in the '80s.
Oklahoma is also a major oil-producing state, and the industry has enormous influence in the state. And of course, there is the ubiquitous Fox, not to mention hate radio. For example, back in the '70s, I often listened to KRMG, an AM station out of Tulsa. It was very laid back then and not particularly political. However, the station's format has changed over the years into "news-talk", and it carries Rush Limbaugh's rantings, among other unpalatable programming.

(13,110 posts)As a disabled person I had sympathy for the man in the wheelchair until I watched the news video clip of him.
He has been going to this restaurant for years.
He didn't have any trouble supporting this man's hateful stance against blacks, homosexuals, Muslims, and calling women bitches.
Now that he is barred he has a problem.
He is a bigoted racists ass just like the owner.

(21,020 posts)If he's been going there for years, what caused him to be barred?
Did the restaurant owner just suddenly decide to ban all disabled people overnight?
Or was the wheelchair guy able-bodied before, but now he's not?
As for the owner himself...was he always against certain people? And was he always so vocal about it? IOW, if he had always held those beliefs, but never mentioned them, how was anyone supposed to know?

They and others I've met who are disfigured from service injuries, also help with those born disabled as mentors.
Are the disabled supposed to be hidden away like they are something to be ashamed of?
Did this guy ever serve in the military? Or know any disabled kids of vets?
Being disabled is part of life. He's going to be disabled he gets older, so will his customers if they live that long.
Does he serve Soylent Green?
He's not going out of business. He's going to be a disgrace to humanity until he dies. And so will the rest of his DItthohead customer base. What a waste of oxygen, food, water and space.

(16,149 posts)discrimination against GLBT individuals and organizations, and barring GLBT individuals and organizations from Court access. These bills all seek to provide legal cover to any person, business, organization, or government entity to actively deny public service and goods to GLBT individuals and organizations, under the claim of "sincerely held religious beliefs." Gay people would be denied lodging, food, health care, police protection, Court access, jobs, etc. Basically, these laws will seek to impose a kind of "Biblical law" as a trump card to secular/democratic law. It's the new Jim Crow. It's Stand Your Ground against tax-paying gay American citizens. Taxation without representation. And, denial of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Hate under the guise of religion.

I personally hope he pushes this so that his business is closed. At some point we must engage in a campaign of scorched earth. We cannot continue to molly-coddle these monsters.
As to his statement of compromising his own body would compromise anything I say, Fuck you. As a gay man I don't compromise anything when I engage in loving, mutual sex with another man. We are not compromising ourselves. We are in fact freeing ourselves from the man (top) and woman (bottom) dichotomy of the religious right.

P.S.: Here's a review from Yelp. I rest my case.
On my way to Norman, while visiting a college friend, I thought we'd head out for a quick bite. Yikes! This place was dirty, loud, and the wait was soooo much longer than it should have been. Clearly the staff here have little experience in food service. The waiter was rude and distracted, the food was lukewarm, and our cups remained empty far longer than is polite. Skip this awful hillbilly joint and grab McDonalds or Taco Bell.

"If you come in here with all the in your face and a limp wrist, no I don't really want you in here and my customers damn sure don't want you in here," James said.
James, who is also running for a spot on the Enid City Council, is keeping out what he calls "trash" and "people on welfare."
