MILWAUKEE (AP) Anti-abortion groups angry over what they see as the Girl Scouts' support for abortion-rights advocates, including Democratic Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, have launched a cookie boycott.
The groups have taken issue with tweets and Facebook postings that link to articles recognizing Davis, who shot to political stardom last year with a filibuster of abortion limits, and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, another Democrat who supports abortion rights.
"It's very clear that they are not citing any pro-life leaders with any praise, even though their official stand is they are not taking any position on abortion," said John Pisciotta, director of Pro-Life Waco and organizer of the so-called CookieCott 2014...
... Pisciotta organized a 2004 boycott of cookie sales in Waco after the local Girl Scouts council recognized the leader of the local Planned Parenthood chapter for her achievements. It helped give the council its best year for cookie sales, said Lucia Weinmeister, spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts of Central Texas.... MORE

(16,232 posts)And then give them to the homeless or the shelter or food pantry or something.
The only "decent" thing I heard, is they specifically told their members to not harass the girls or say anything but "no thank you". Not that they were being decent, just trying to avoid bad press or a lawsuit because of some whack job. Ok. Maybe some of that was some sort of decency from some women who might actually give a crap about a little girl.
Of course, that doesn't mean i don't think they're batshit crazy with their anti choice anti woman
bs.

(9,126 posts)like ruining a young girl's day!
And besides, I don't believe the fundnuts would let their daughters be a part of Girl Scouts because that might give them ideas like the fact that they are independent, equal human beings with a brain who should have the only say over their lives and their bodies. Girl Scouts always has been about empowering girls and the Christaban can't have that.

(187 posts)how little the GS make on each sale. Now I just give them cash and tell them to keep the cookies. Last time I checked the GS's got about $0.25 per box. During cookie season I typically end up giving about $100 to various GS Troops who are flogging their cookies all over town.
What I don't understand is why after all theses these years the GS do know own the means of cookie production where everything having to do with the cookies is owned and operated by GS's and former GS's.

(14,061 posts)They do this every year, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
My reaction is always the same: More for me.
